Question about `ARMA_CRIPPLED_LAPACK` pragma message

Hi @eddelbuettel,

I'm building my package tEDM with RcppArmadillo 15.0.1 on Windows (R 4.5.1).

When compiling, I see the following note:

D:/application/R/pkgR/RcppArmadillo/include/current/armadillo_bits/config.hpp:373:72: note: 
#pragma message: NOTE: option ARMA_CRIPPLED_LAPACK is not supported

My current Makevars includes:

PKG_CXXFLAGS = -DARMA_USE_CURRENT
PKG_LIBS = $(LAPACK_LIBS) $(BLAS_LIBS) $(FLIBS) \
           `"$(R_HOME)/bin/Rscript" -e "RcppThread::LdFlags()"`

Questions:

1. Is this message harmless or should I take any action?
2. Is there a way to suppress this message cleanly without affecting functionality?

This is a change from upstream Armadillo in version 15.0.*. I am most likely uploading a new RcppArmadillo (within the next few days) which will not issue the warning because most new(er) R installations should have sufficient internal LAPACK. I presume besides this message (issue by the embedded Armadillo 15.0.1) you have no other issues?

You can (in local testing) suppress the issue by commenting out the #define in the file (located inside the RcppArmadillo installation) include/RcppArmadillo/config/RcppArmadilloConfigGenerated.h and commenting out the first #ifndef block.

If you really must upload before a new RcppArmadillo is at CRAN, by switching to -DARMA_USE_LEGACY and updating to -DARMA_USE_CURRENT 'next time'. It might be preferable to wait if you can.

Let me know if I can help in any other way.

PS The message should also be harmless as you suspect. But we may as well make sure it does not appear.

RcppArmadillo 15.0.2-1, a version which includes PR #483 and longer sets the #define for ARMA_CRIPPLED_LAPACK, is now on CRAN. If you rely on particular build (say for Windows) you may have to wait the usual time of a day or two.
