# Meta per-message pricing linked errata

## Scope

- Three published pairs still described Meta's WhatsApp pricing before the October 1, 2026 update: `billing/whatsapp-fees.md` (`local_verified` at `c004d2bb3ee0d8a4cca6117036413e2579042165`), `integrations/connect-whatsapp.md` (`pending`) and `numbers/whatsapp-channel-fundamentals.md` (`local_verified` at `1c50ccd00ce4fc17377e89cf270f6791351a6a56`). This narrow correction changes only their Meta pricing and sending-limit statements. It neither closes nor reopens the rows' own editorial reviews, so `progress.csv` is unchanged.
- Original ES and EN bodies were preserved at `originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/`. +
## Verified correction

Sources read on 2026-10-28:

- Meta, [Pricing on the WhatsApp Business Platform](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/business-messaging/whatsapp/pricing). The page states that it reflects pricing updates effective as of October 1, 2026. Meta has charged per delivered message since July 1, 2025. Each business phone number has a free tier of 1,000 delivered service messages per month; it applies only to service messages and does not roll over. Utility messages sent in response to users inside an open customer service window changed from free to regular pricing on October 1, 2026. Without a payment method, Meta delivers service messages only within the free tier. The free entry point applies to users who message from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad with the Android or iOS app; when the business responds inside the customer service window, the window may stay open for up to 7 days and Meta charges none of its four categories. Volume tiers apply only to utility and authentication messages.
- Meta, [Messaging limits](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/business-messaging/whatsapp/messaging-limits). The limit counts unique users reached outside the customer service window in a moving 24-hour period and is set at the business portfolio level. New portfolios start at 250; the limit rises to 2,000 after business verification or 2,000 delivered messages with high-quality templates in 30 days, then to 10,000, 100,000 and unlimited while quality stays high and at least half of the current limit was used in the last 7 days.

Changes in both languages:

- `whatsapp-fees`: the billable categories now include service. The former sentence about free service and in-window utility replies and the 72-hour ad or Page entry point is replaced by the current service-message charge, the 1,000-message free tier, the in-window utility charge, the no-payment-method behavior and the 7-day Click-to-WhatsApp free entry point. Meta's page names only Click-to-WhatsApp ads, so the Facebook Page button was removed. The estimation checklist mentions the service free tier.
- `connect-whatsapp`: the FAQ note no longer calls Meta's charges conversation costs. The per-message answer, which said neither Hellotext nor Meta charges per message and described 72-hour conversations, now states per-delivered-message pricing and links to the Meta fees guide. The sending-limit answer now counts unique customers and gives the 2,000 step and the 7-day usage condition.
- `whatsapp-channel-fundamentals`: the pricing sentence no longer says service replies have no Meta charge.

## Visual decision and verification

- No figure was added or changed. Meta's live page owns the rates, and the two existing Meta screenshots in the Connect WhatsApp FAQ remain as published; recapturing them is outside this correction.
- `git diff --check` passed. The production `yarn build` was not run in this environment: its Linux VM has Ruby 3.0.2 and no access to rubygems.org, while the repository pins Ruby 3.3.6. Pending: production build with security-header checks, ES/EN review of the three pairs at 1280 and 390 CSS px, PR deploy preview, merge, normal Netlify deploy and public verification.
- The www pricing FAQ in the Rails repository is corrected separately on `claude/meta-per-message-pricing-faq`.

With Hellotext you can connect a new or existing WhatsApp account to manage customer conversations, run WhatsApp playbooks or routes, send targeted campaigns, and let AI agents respond when appropriate.

This is a step-by-step guide to help you set up your WhatsApp account with Hellotext.

If WhatsApp is already connected and you want to decide how to use it across Inbox, playbooks, routes, campaigns, captures, and commerce, read [WhatsApp channel fundamentals]({% link _numbers/whatsapp-channel-fundamentals.md %}).

## Before you start

Before you start make sure about the following:

#### You have a Facebook account with access to your company Meta Business Suite.
* You’ll need to sign in to your Facebook account in the next steps. If you do not have a Facebook account you can [**create one here**](https://www.facebook.com/reg/) first.
* If your company doesn't have a Meta Business account, make sure to [**create one here**](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/1710077379203657?id=180505742745347).
* Make sure you have admin access to your company’s Meta Business account.

#### You have an available phone number to use for WhatsApp.
* You can use a phone number already registered with WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. If you do so, you must first delete your WhatsApp account [**following these instructions**](https://faq.whatsapp.com/3059780464322392/). Please note that any existing conversations will be deleted and cannot be recovered. If you want to keep your conversations we suggest using a new phone number.
* If you already have a WhatsApp Business Platform account (already connected to similar service to Hellotext) you will be likely able to proceed without the account deletion. However, any existing conversations will not be imported.
* You must be able to receive SMS or phone calls on this phone number.
* Use a phone number your business already controls. Hellotext does not provide or migrate WhatsApp phone numbers during this setup.

## Next Steps

#### Associate a payment method on WhatsApp

In order to be able to send messages to your customers you need to set up a payment method on Meta. You can associate a credit card or a credit line if you are already using Meta Ads with your new WhatsApp Account.

Visit the [**Meta WhatsApp Manager**](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/home/) page from the WhatsApp account you want to associate a payment method, select the three dots and click on *Manage account settings*.

From the WhatsApp account Settings page click on *Payment Settings*.

Select your business country, currency and time zone and click on *Next*.

Select your preferred payment method (availability depends on your country) and click on *Next*.

Enter your payment information and click on *Save*.

The credit card is added to your WhatsApp Business Platform account. You can view the added credit card in the Settings tab.

If you need more help, you can [**follow these official Meta instructions**](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/488291839463771#) and you can learn more about billing for your WhatsApp Business account [**here**](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/2225184664363779?id=2129163877102343).

#### Verify your business

You need to verify your business on Meta if you haven't already.

Visit the [**Meta Business Settings**](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/) page and from the left side click on *Security Center*.

From the Verification area click on *Start verification* and follow the steps. You'll be asked for your company information and Meta may request some information about your business as well as additional legal documents.

This process can take several days while Meta reviews your documentation, so we recommend starting it as early as possible to increase your sending limits and to prevent Meta from deactivating your WhatsApp account.

#### How to get a green badge Once your account is verified, you can apply for a green badge in your WhatsApp Business Account. This is recommended as it increases trust and gives reassurance to customers that they are communicating with your business.
 +

Click on the settings icon of the desired phone number you want to obtain a badge.

Click on *Profile* and from Official business account click on *Submit request* and follow the steps.

If Submit request is disabled make sure first that you have added a payment method to your WhatsApp Business Account and you have your business already verified.

## Troubleshooting

#### Can't add a payment method

If your WhatsApp Business Platform Account was previously associated with a different provider and the provider was a BSP (managed the payments) it may be required that your service provider removes the line of credit from your account before you can add yours.

You can ask your previous service provider to remove your line of credit from your account before attempting again.

## Common Questions

#### Do I need to pay both Meta and Hellotext?

Hellotext uses a performance-based model: you pay **2–5%** of the revenue attributed to Hellotext, depending on your plan. **[More about Pricing]({% link _billing/how-pricing-works.md %})**.

**Key rule:** each month you pay a single item—the highest among: plan minimum, performance fee, SMS cost, or variable messaging fee (US $ 2 per 1,000). The variable fee is only charged if it’s higher than the other three.

This means that AI-powered messages through WhatsApp/Instagram/Webchat are usually included; the variable fee only applies in months when plan minimum, performance, and SMS are **lower** than that amount.

If you maintain your quality rating high, Meta will increase the number of messages you can send every 24 hours to 10,000, 100,000 or unlimited.

You can get more information about the current messaging limits of each of your phone numbers by clicking on the *Settings* icon.

#### Verificar tu empresa

## Preguntas frecuentes

Use WhatsApp when customers expect a conversational channel and you want Hellotext to support replies, playbooks, routes, campaigns, AI agents, and commerce in one place.

This guide explains how to think about WhatsApp after the account is connected. For the connection steps, start with [Connect WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-whatsapp.md %}).

## What WhatsApp is best for

WhatsApp works well when the customer may reply, ask a follow-up question, or need help before buying.

Use WhatsApp for:

- Inbox conversations with customers.
- AI agents that answer questions or recommend products, such as [Smart Recommender]({% link _journeys/smart-recommender-playbook.md %}).
- Order-status support with [Order-Update Delight]({% link _journeys/order-update-playbook.md %}) when order and tracking data are available.
- Playbooks that recover carts, help shoppers choose, support post-purchase questions, or react to customer signals.
- Routes that ask questions, branch, assign conversations, or collect context.
- Targeted campaigns to eligible audiences.
- Product discovery when the catalog is available for WhatsApp, and continuation to checkout when the commerce integration supports that flow.

Use SMS when you mainly need broad reach and a simple text message. Many businesses use both channels. Keep reading: [SMS channel fundamentals]({% link _numbers/sms-channel-fundamentals.md %}).

## Prepare the channel before launch

Before you rely on WhatsApp for customers, confirm that:

- Your WhatsApp Business account and phone number are connected in Hellotext.
- Meta billing, verification requirements, and account and phone-number restrictions allow the intended use.
- The phone number you plan to use is available in Hellotext.
- You have permission for WhatsApp, the destination, and the intended message type. Retain how and when it was obtained: a purchase, a saved phone number, or **Subscribed** status does not establish that permission by itself.
- Replies are routed to the team that will handle them in the Inbox.
- You validated flows with authorized test data and recipients in an isolated environment before launch. Do not use a real campaign or imported contacts as an improvised test.
- Required products are eligible, synchronized, and available in the correct catalog when the flow needs WhatsApp commerce; connecting an account does not establish that all its products are published.

Keep reading: [Connect your catalog to WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-catalog-to-whatsapp.md %}).

## Understand inbound and outbound messages

WhatsApp behaves differently depending on who started the conversation.

When a customer messages the connected, enabled channel, Hellotext can receive the conversation in the Inbox. Depending on configuration and eligibility, a playbook, route, or AI agent may also handle it. The WhatsApp customer service window lasts **24 hours from the customer’s latest message**. Another customer message resets it; a business send or closing the conversation in Hellotext does not reset it.

Outside that window, use an approved WhatsApp template allowed for the message’s purpose. Business-initiated sends, including campaigns and proactive playbooks, must follow template and consent rules. A recent conversation or reachable destination does not replace permission for future promotions. Consult the [current WhatsApp Business policy](https://business.whatsapp.com/policy).

Plan your WhatsApp experience around both modes:

- **Inbound:** customer asks, Hellotext replies or routes the conversation.
- **Outbound:** Hellotext sends a template-based message to an eligible audience or customer profile.

## Templates and message categories

WhatsApp templates help Meta review and classify business-initiated messages. Use them when Hellotext needs to start a WhatsApp conversation or send outside the customer service window.

The three template categories are:

- **Marketing:** offers, product suggestions, abandoned cart reminders, launches, and promotions.
- **Utility:** order, account, delivery, or other transactional updates requested by the customer.
- **Authentication:** one-time passwords and identity verification.

**Service** describes replies inside the customer service window; it is not a fourth template category. The final purpose and content determine classification, even if the local name says “order update.”

Choose the category, language, and content for the actual use. Check the **active approved version for the sending WhatsApp account**. A saved draft or pending change does not establish that this content is already approved; an earlier version may remain active while the change is reviewed. Meta can reject, pause, or restrict a template, so approval does not guarantee delivery.

In **Settings > Templates**, the **Message** editor lets you prepare the body and review formatting. The figure shows “Read” in bold and “instructions” in italics: it is a fictional unsaved draft, opened in the common editor from SMS. It identifies the content area; it does not show an approved WhatsApp template, its category, or delivery. Available tools depend on the channel and flow.
