From 4682aa1b27ebb322d9c69d8ee6c255c1d7ee2200 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Martin Caetano Date: Wed, 28 Oct 2026 17:29:45 +0000 Subject: [PATCH] Update WhatsApp pricing to Meta's October 2026 rules Meta now charges service messages per message, with 1,000 free delivered service messages per month for each phone number, and charges utility replies sent inside the customer service window. The free entry point lasts up to 7 days and applies to Click-to-WhatsApp ads. Correct the Meta fees guide, the Connect WhatsApp FAQ (which still described 72-hour conversations and the old sending limits) and the WhatsApp fundamentals pricing note in both languages, and record the change as linked errata with the original bodies. Each business phone number has a free tier of 1,000 delivered service messages per month; it applies only to service messages and does not roll over. Utility messages sent in response to users inside an open customer service window changed from free to regular pricing on October 1, 2026. Without a payment method, Meta delivers service messages only within the free tier. The free entry point applies to users who message from a Click-to-WhatsApp ad with the Android or iOS app; when the business responds inside the customer service window, the window may stay open for up to 7 days and Meta charges none of its four categories. Volume tiers apply only to utility and authentication messages. +- Meta, [Messaging limits](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/business-messaging/whatsapp/messaging-limits). Meta's page names only Click-to-WhatsApp ads, so the Facebook Page button was removed. You can associate a credit card or a credit line if you are already using Meta Ads with your new WhatsApp Account. + +Visit the [**Meta WhatsApp Manager**](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/home/) page from the WhatsApp account you want to associate a payment method, select the three dots and click on *Manage account settings*. + + + +From the WhatsApp account Settings page click on *Payment Settings*. + + + +From *Payment methods* click on *Add payment method*. + + + +Select your business country, currency and time zone and click on *Next*. + + + +Select your preferred payment method (availability depends on your country) and click on *Next*. + + + +Enter your payment information and click on *Save*. + + + +The credit card is added to your WhatsApp Business Platform account. You'll be asked for your company information and Meta may request some information about your business as well as additional legal documents. + + + +This process can take several days while Meta reviews your documentation, so we recommend starting it as early as possible to increase your sending limits and to prevent Meta from deactivating your WhatsApp account. + + + +#### How to get a green badge on WhatsApp + +

Once your account is verified, you can apply for a green badge in your WhatsApp Business Account. This is recommended as it increases trust and gives reassurance to customers that they are communicating with your business.

+ +
+ Before you apply for a green badge you need to have a WhatsApp Business Account created with at least one verified phone number, a payment method associated with your WhatsApp Business Account and you need to complete your business verification. +
+ +Visit the [**Meta WhatsApp Manager**](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/home/), click on *Account tools* and select *Phone numbers*. + + + +Click on the settings icon of the desired phone number you want to obtain a badge. + + + +Click on *Profile* and from Official business account click on *Submit request* and follow the steps. + + + +If Submit request is disabled make sure first that you have added a payment method to your WhatsApp Business Account and you have your business already verified. + + +## Troubleshooting + +#### Can't add a payment method + +If your WhatsApp Business Platform Account was previously associated with a different provider and the provider was a BSP (managed the payments) it may be required that your service provider removes the line of credit from your account before you can add yours. + +You can ask your previous service provider to remove your line of credit from your account before attempting again. + +## Common Questions + +#### Do I need to pay both Meta and Hellotext? + +Hellotext uses a performance-based model: you pay **2–5%** of the revenue attributed to Hellotext, depending on your plan. **[More about Pricing]({% link _billing/how-pricing-works.md %})**. + +**Key rule:** each month you pay a single item—the highest among: plan minimum, performance fee, SMS cost, or variable messaging fee (US $ 2 per 1,000). The variable fee is only charged if it’s higher than the other three. + +This means that AI-powered messages through WhatsApp/Instagram/Webchat are usually included; the variable fee only applies in months when plan minimum, performance, and SMS are **lower** than that amount. + +
+ Important: WhatsApp conversation costs are billed separately by Meta and are not part of your Hellotext invoice. See Meta’s rates. +
+ +#### Is the charge per message or per conversation? + +Neither Hellotext nor Meta charge per individual message. + +In Meta, each template message opens a 72-hour conversation window, within which all subsequent messages (whether from the business or the customer) are free of charge. + +In Hellotext, the variable fee of US $ 2 per 1,000 applies based on message volume only when none of the other items (plan minimum, performance, or SMS) are higher. + +#### What are the sending limits? + +Meta monitors the quality of the messages you send to your customers. + +Meta typically begins allowing 250 business-initiated conversations during a 24-hour window and it increases to 1,000 once you verify your business. + +We recommend checking your quality rating often and making sure your rating is high. + +To see the quality of your WhatsApp Business Account numbers visit the [**Phone numbers**](https://business.facebook.com/wa/manage/phone-numbers) section. + + + +If you maintain your quality rating high, Meta will increase the number of messages you can send every 24 hours to 10,000, 100,000 or unlimited. + +You can get more information about the current messaging limits of each of your phone numbers by clicking on the *Settings* icon.

+ + + +Lee más sobre las mejores prácticas para [**aumentar los límites de mensajería**](https://www.facebook.com/business/help/756123206477156#) en Meta. diff --git a/docs/editorial-work/originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/whatsapp-channel-fundamentals/en.md b/docs/editorial-work/originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/whatsapp-channel-fundamentals/en.md new file mode 100644 index 00000000..dd9ee386 --- /dev/null +++ b/docs/editorial-work/originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/whatsapp-channel-fundamentals/en.md @@ -0,0 +1,182 @@ +Use WhatsApp when customers expect a conversational channel and you want Hellotext to support replies, playbooks, routes, campaigns, AI agents, and commerce in one place. + +This guide explains how to think about WhatsApp after the account is connected. Many businesses use both channels. Keep reading: [SMS channel fundamentals]({% link _numbers/sms-channel-fundamentals.md %}). + +## Prepare the channel before launch + +Before you rely on WhatsApp for customers, confirm that: + +- Your WhatsApp Business account and phone number are connected in Hellotext. +- Meta billing, verification requirements, and account and phone-number restrictions allow the intended use. +- The phone number you plan to use is available in Hellotext. +- You have permission for WhatsApp, the destination, and the intended message type. Retain how and when it was obtained: a purchase, a saved phone number, or **Subscribed** status does not establish that permission by itself. +- Replies are routed to the team that will handle them in the Inbox. +- You validated flows with authorized test data and recipients in an isolated environment before launch. Do not use a real campaign or imported contacts as an improvised test. +- Required products are eligible, synchronized, and available in the correct catalog when the flow needs WhatsApp commerce; connecting an account does not establish that all its products are published. + +Keep reading: [Connect your catalog to WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-catalog-to-whatsapp.md %}). + +## Understand inbound and outbound messages + +WhatsApp behaves differently depending on who started the conversation. + +When a customer messages the connected, enabled channel, Hellotext can receive the conversation in the Inbox. Depending on configuration and eligibility, a playbook, route, or AI agent may also handle it. The WhatsApp customer service window lasts **24 hours from the customer’s latest message**. Another customer message resets it; a business send or closing the conversation in Hellotext does not reset it. + +Outside that window, use an approved WhatsApp template allowed for the message’s purpose. Business-initiated sends, including campaigns and proactive playbooks, must follow template and consent rules. A recent conversation or reachable destination does not replace permission for future promotions. Consult the [current WhatsApp Business policy](https://business.whatsapp.com/policy). + +Plan your WhatsApp experience around both modes: + +- **Inbound:** customer asks, Hellotext replies or routes the conversation. +- **Outbound:** Hellotext sends a template-based message to an eligible audience or customer profile. + +## Templates and message categories + +WhatsApp templates help Meta review and classify business-initiated messages. Use them when Hellotext needs to start a WhatsApp conversation or send outside the customer service window. + +The three template categories are: + +- **Marketing:** offers, product suggestions, abandoned cart reminders, launches, and promotions. +- **Utility:** order, account, delivery, or other transactional updates requested by the customer. +- **Authentication:** one-time passwords and identity verification. + +**Service** describes replies inside the customer service window; it is not a fourth template category. The final purpose and content determine classification, even if the local name says “order update.” + +Choose the category, language, and content for the actual use. Check the **active approved version for the sending WhatsApp account**. A saved draft or pending change does not establish that this content is already approved; an earlier version may remain active while the change is reviewed. Meta can reject, pause, or restrict a template, so approval does not guarantee delivery. + +In **Settings > Templates**, the **Message** editor lets you prepare the body and review formatting. The figure shows “Read” in bold and “instructions” in italics: it is a fictional unsaved draft, opened in the common editor from SMS. Meta charges for delivered messages by category and market; its service replies inside the window have no Meta charge. This does not make Hellotext usage or billing free. Do not assume a fixed rate or equate acceptance with delivery. + +## How Hellotext uses WhatsApp + +### Inbox + +WhatsApp replies can appear in the Inbox so teammates can answer, assign, close, or hand off conversations. Define who handles them, their capacity, and working hours. Receipt does not guarantee that a particular person has taken ownership. If AI or a playbook cannot resolve a conversation, provide a clear handoff to the responsible teammate. Closing a conversation is a Hellotext service state and does not open another Meta window. + +Keep reading: [AI handoff to Inbox]({% link _team/ai-handoff-to-inbox.md %}). + +### Playbooks and routes + +Playbooks and routes can use WhatsApp for automated conversations, product recommendations, cart recovery, support, post-purchase follow-up, and branching flows. + +Before launch, validate the real trigger, received context, active version, each branch, and the flow’s own schedules and limits in the authorized environment. Check what happens on a reply, handoff, or pause. Inbox tools are not identical to route tools: the Playbook message form, for example, does not offer location. A preview or draft does not establish that the flow is active or a reply has arrived. + +### Campaigns + +Campaigns can send targeted WhatsApp messages to eligible audiences. Review the final channel, exclusions, permission, active version, time zone, schedule, and potential overlaps before confirming. Do not apply one playbook’s limit or window to all campaigns. The WhatsApp and SMS option does not turn every failure into a resend: fallback requires a compatible flow, a valid destination, and permission for SMS. + +Keep reading: [Campaigns overview]({% link _campaigns/campaigns-overview.md %}). + +### Capture tools + +Capture tools can help customers opt in to WhatsApp. Explain the channel, purpose, and expected messages. + +Adding products to a cart or receiving a request through WhatsApp does not confirm a purchase, payment, or delivery. Continuation to checkout depends on a compatible integration producing a valid URL; connecting a catalog does not make it available for every catalog. Reconcile the order and its signals with the store before treating it as a sale. Keep reading: [Product catalog synchronization]({% link _integrations/product-catalog-sync.md %}). + +## Keep WhatsApp healthy + +WhatsApp quality depends on sending messages that customers expect and want. + +Before and after launch: + +- Send only to customer profiles with WhatsApp consent. +- Keep frequency reasonable. +- Make the message purpose clear. +- Avoid sending the same reminder too many times. +- Watch replies, complaints, blocks, opt-outs, and sends with errors. Honor opt-outs received through other routes too; opt-out text in a draft does not process a customer’s request. +- Review phone-number quality and sending limits in Meta. +- Route confused, angry, or high-risk conversations to the Inbox. + +If quality drops or customers are surprised by the messages, pause and adjust the audience, template, schedule, or flow rules. Distinguish accepted requests, processed messages, routing, delivery, and viewing. In the current API, HTTP 200 with **received** does not include an ID or guarantee creation or delivery; **error** status is distinct from an inbound event. If the outcome is uncertain, reconcile the request and statuses before retrying to avoid duplicates. + +For support, share the business, flow, period and time zone, template/version, and available request or message identifiers. Do not include tokens, passwords, or unnecessary private data. + +## First WhatsApp launch checklist + +Before your first WhatsApp launch, confirm that: + +1. WhatsApp is connected in Hellotext. +2. Meta billing, verification, and templates are ready. +3. Permission, destination, and message type are checked for each recipient. +4. Replies go to the right Inbox owners. +5. Flows were validated with authorized isolated data and recipients, keeping tests separate from real sales. +6. Handoff, limits, schedules, permitted fallback, pause, and uncertain-result handling are clear. + +After an authorized launch, review statuses, replies, and reporting for the real flow. Attribution needs recorded purchase signals and the applicable window; a cart request, click, or reply is not automatically an attributed sale. Retain period, time zone, population, and denominator when comparing results, and check pending outcomes before repeating sends. + +Keep reading: [Go-live checklist before you send]({% link _getting-started/go-live-checklist.md %}). + +## Related guides + +- [Messaging channels overview]({% link _numbers/messaging-overview.md %}) +- [SMS channel fundamentals]({% link _numbers/sms-channel-fundamentals.md %}) +- [Connect WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-whatsapp.md %}) +- [Connect your catalog to WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-catalog-to-whatsapp.md %}) +- [Order-Update Delight playbook]({% link _journeys/order-update-playbook.md %}) +- [Who can I message? + +## Guías relacionadas + +- [Resumen de canales de mensajería]({% link _numbers/messaging-overview.md %}) +- [Fundamentos del canal SMS]({% link _numbers/sms-channel-fundamentals.md %}) +- [Conecta WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-whatsapp.md %}) +- [Conecta tu catálogo a WhatsApp]({% link _integrations/connect-catalog-to-whatsapp.md %}) +- [Misión Seguimiento de Pedidos]({% link _journeys/order-update-playbook.md %}) +- [A quién puedo escribirle: consentimiento y estado de suscripción]({% link _audience/consent-and-subscriber-status.md %}) +- [Resumen de inbox y conversaciones]({% link _team/inbox-overview.md %}) +- [Resumen de misiones y automatización]({% link _journeys/playbooks-overview.md %}) diff --git a/docs/editorial-work/originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/whatsapp-fees/en.md b/docs/editorial-work/originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/whatsapp-fees/en.md new file mode 100644 index 00000000..dd64427e --- /dev/null +++ b/docs/editorial-work/originals/meta-per-message-pricing-errata-20261028/whatsapp-fees/en.md @@ -0,0 +1,53 @@ +WhatsApp has two separate cost layers when you use it through Hellotext: + +1. the Hellotext pricing model for platform, performance, SMS, and eligible non-SMS message usage; and +2. Hellotext does not collect these fees, and they do not appear as charges on your Hellotext invoice. + +> **Important:** You pay Hellotext for Hellotext charges and Meta directly for WhatsApp Business Platform charges. Paying a Hellotext invoice does not pay or settle your Meta balance. + +## What Meta controls + +Meta applies its current pricing rules to **delivered** messages, not merely sent messages. When a message is billable, its rate depends on the recipient market and its category: marketing, utility, or authentication. Meta calculates these charges and collects payment directly using the billing arrangement configured for your WhatsApp Business Platform account. + +Under Meta's current rules, service messages and utility messages sent in response to users within the 24-hour customer service window opened or reset by their latest message have no charge. For eligible entry points from an ad that opens WhatsApp or a Facebook Page call-to-action, replying to the customer's message within 24 hours opens a 72-hour window with no message charges, counted from your business's reply. Utility and authentication messages may qualify for volume discounts. Check the exact terms for your case: using WhatsApp does not mean every message incurs a Meta fee. + +Because Meta can change its categories and rates, use the official [WhatsApp Business Platform pricing page](https://business.whatsapp.com/products/platform-pricing) for current values. + +## What Hellotext controls + +Hellotext applies its own pricing model to the Hellotext service. For plans under the standard monthly comparison, eligible WhatsApp message volume can be part of the non-SMS variable messaging amount; that amount is charged when it is the highest of the four amounts compared. Prepaid accounts and fixed-plan agreements may be settled differently. Check your account terms and the [pricing model]({% link _billing/how-pricing-works.md %}). + +This does not replace or absorb Meta fees. Hellotext does not add Meta fees to the Hellotext invoice or collect them on Meta's behalf. + +## How to estimate the complete cost + +Review both parts: + +- Use **Settings → Billing** for your Hellotext plan, usage, and invoices. +- Use the payment and billing information configured with Meta, together with Meta's current rate table, to review WhatsApp fees paid directly to Meta. +- Confirm your business billing country for Hellotext. For Meta, estimate delivered messages by recipient market and category, and account for applicable free cases and volume discounts. + +If your plan uses the standard monthly comparison, do not add the four Hellotext pricing components together: identify the highest. If you have a prepaid account or fixed agreement, use its billing terms. Then account for applicable taxes and review Meta charges separately in Meta's billing environment; those charges are paid to Meta, not Hellotext. + +## Common questions + +**Are Meta fees included in the plan minimum?** + +No. They are not included in the plan minimum and are not paid to Hellotext. Meta charges them directly under your WhatsApp Business Platform billing setup. + +**Does fair use mean WhatsApp has no Meta cost?** + +No. Under the standard monthly comparison, fair use determines whether Hellotext's variable non-SMS amount becomes the Hellotext charge. It does not change Meta's WhatsApp pricing. + +**Why can two businesses have different WhatsApp costs?** + +Recipient countries, message mix, and Meta pricing can differ.
