docs: check the CLI version before linking a project to a workspace - #1600
The "Using with Claude Code" guide gives the Node.js minimum but not the CLI one. Someone with an older install skips the install step and runs altimate-code link, which fails on 0.12.4 ("Workspaces are a pilot feature and are off") and doesn't exist in 0.11.x and older. 0.12.5 is the first release that links without the pilot flag (#1381, #1396).
Plugin setup, step 1: run the install again to upgrade; linking needs 0.12.5 or later.
Use an Altimate workspace from Claude Code: a new first step, "Check your version", before sign-in. It has altimate-code --version, says to rerun the install if it's older, and gives which -a altimate-code (where altimate-code on Windows) for when an older copy on PATH still runs. The later steps are renumbered.
The in-app setup guides get the same step in a separate change.
How did you verify your code works?
Ran the guide's commands as written in a clean npm prefix: on 0.12.4, altimate-code link fails with the pilot message. npm install -g altimate-code upgrades to 0.12.8, --version and which -a show the new copy, and link opens the workspace picker.
The Claude Code guide gave the Node.js minimum but not the CLI one, so
someone with an older install went straight to `altimate-code link` and
got "Workspaces are a pilot feature and are off" (0.12.4) or no `link`
command at all (older).
- install step: run the install again to upgrade; linking needs 0.12.5+
- workspace section: a "Check your version" step before sign-in, with
`altimate-code --version`, and `which -a` / `where` for an older copy
that runs first

The guide states that rerunning the npm install upgrades Altimate Code and that workspace linking requires version 0.12.5 or later. It adds a version check, reinstall instructions, and steps to find and remove an older executable on PATH. The existing setup steps are renumbered; their commands and described behavior are unchanged.

A rabbit checks the CLI version with care. “Twelve-five or newer,” the guide says there. If an old path takes the lead, Find that copy; reinstall if needed. Then link the workspace and hop along.

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Use where.exe for the Windows PATH check.
In Windows PowerShell, where resolves to the Where-Object alias, not the Windows PATH-search executable. The documented command therefore does not list competing altimate-code installations. Replace it with where.exe altimate-code.
