Problem

The Bark channel accepts several URLs but has a single device scope (device_ids), so every URL receives every device's notifications. With two SIM readers and two Bark devices, there is no way to send reader A's SMS only to Bark device A and reader B's only to Bark device B.

Change

Add an optional bark.url_scopes field:

"bark": {
  "urls": ["https://api.day.app/KeyA/", "https://api.day.app/KeyB/"],
  "url_scopes": [
    { "url": "https://api.day.app/KeyA/", "device_ids": ["reader-1"] },
    { "url": "https://api.day.app/KeyB/", "device_ids": ["reader-2"] }
  ]
}
  • The channel-wide device_ids still applies first. A URL listed in url_scopes is then limited to its own devices; URLs without an entry follow the channel scope alone. An empty device_ids list mutes that URL, matching the channel-level semantics.
  • Backward compatible: configs without url_scopes behave exactly as before.
  • It is a list rather than a map keyed by URL because the web client rewrites object keys between camelCase and snake_case, which would corrupt case-sensitive Bark keys.
  • Settings validation: each entry must have a valid HTTP(S) url that is also in urls, no duplicate URLs, no unknown fields, and a non-null device_ids array with no empty IDs; at most 32 entries. Other channels still reject url_scopes.
  • Sending: SMS, call and automatic-task Bark notifications all go through one notificationDestinations helper. The Bark test notification still goes to every URL.
  • Web: when two or more Bark URLs are configured, the Bark tab shows a "Devices per URL" section with the existing device picker for each URL (URL shown without its full key). NotificationDeviceScope gained optional title / hint / className props so it can be reused there.

Testing

  • go test ./internal/...: all packages pass, including new notification_url_scope_test.go (routing table + settings API validation) and the existing TestNotificationProvidersFilterDevices / TestNotificationDeviceScopeAPI.
  • cd web && npm test: 24/24 pass, including a new round-trip test for Bark URL scopes in notificationSettingsModel.test.mjs.
  • cd web && npm run build: type-check and build pass.
  • Not done: I have not clicked through the new Bark settings UI in a running VoCat instance, nor sent real Bark pushes with the new scopes.
  • go vet ./internal/server/ reports three pre-existing unkeyed-field warnings in cell_lock_api_test.go; this PR does not touch that file.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Bark notification settings now let you select which devices receive notifications at each destination URL. URLs without an individual device selection continue to follow the channel-wide device settings.
    • Per-URL selections are saved with notification settings and apply only to configured destinations. The settings screen supports managing device selections for individual URLs, while test notifications continue to use the configured channel destinations without saved per-URL selections. This gives you more control over notification delivery across multiple destinations.

Bark accepts several URLs but shares one device scope, so every URL gets
every device's notifications. Add an optional bark.url_scopes list,
[{url, device_ids}], that limits a URL to its own devices; URLs without an
entry keep following the channel-wide device_ids, and configs without
url_scopes behave exactly as before.

The scope is a list rather than a map keyed by URL because the web client
rewrites object keys between camelCase and snake_case, which would corrupt
case-sensitive Bark keys.

- settings: validate url_scopes (URL format, listed in urls, unique, device IDs)
- sending: SMS, call and automatic-task Bark notifications use the per-URL scope
- web: per-URL device picker in the Bark tab when two or more URLs are set
- tests: Go routing and API validation tests, frontend model round-trip test

Walkthrough

Bark notification settings now support device scopes for individual URLs. The settings API validates these scopes, and automatic-task and SMS notifications send only to destinations allowed by the channel-level and URL-level filters.

Changes: Bark URL device scopes

Layer / File(s) Summary
Scope validation and destination resolution
internal/server/settings_api.go, internal/server/notification_url_scope_test.go
The settings API accepts valid URL scopes, rejects invalid entries, and resolves destinations using channel-level and URL-level device filters. Tests cover destination selection, API validation, and test configuration behavior.
Settings form and payload handling
web/src/components/settings/model.ts, web/src/components/settings/PushTabs.tsx, web/src/components/settings/controls.tsx, web/src/pages/SettingsPage.tsx, web/src/lib/i18n-en.ts, web/test/notificationSettingsModel.test.mjs
The Bark form reads and builds URL scopes. The settings UI displays device-scope controls when multiple URLs are configured or a URL already has a scope.
Notification delivery
internal/server/automatic_task_notifications.go, internal/server/sms_notifications.go
Both Bark senders use resolved destinations and skip sending when no destination matches.

abbreviated Bark keys include a stable distinguishing suffix or identifier; keep
the key abbreviated while ensuring URLs with different keys, such as keys
differing only at the end, produce distinct picker labels.

Comment thread internal/server/settings_api.go Resolved
Comment thread internal/server/settings_api.go Resolved
- Reject `url_scopes: null` instead of treating it as no scopes.
- Drop saved url_scopes from Bark test configs: a test goes to every draft
  URL, and the saved scopes could reject a draft that removed a URL.
- Keep the per-URL picker visible while any remaining URL has a scope, so a
  scope can still be cleared after the other URLs are removed.
- Show the first and last four characters of the Bark key so two URLs are
  distinguishable in the picker.
