feat: simplify Memory board and catch-up tab #130

Closed

Description

@Jammy2211

Compact Memory board and one-tap reading queue

Work-type: feature
Difficulty: medium

Target: @PyAutoMemory

Original request (verbatim)

PyAutoMemory: Remove all stuff between the copy check in prompt box and "arxiv Inbox", its not useful.

I think we should still keep a "catch up" button and tab, but its just concisely the finroamtion on when the catch
up is needed from and a clickable prompt button.

This is doable but looks likwe e need to sort GitHub token management:

  • Having to put a github issue up to put something on the to read list is too much time, I want to put like 5
papers with 1 day left there today but it should be a single click and done, is that possible?

Approved scope

User approved: "do it, we will sort token stuff in a bit".

  • Clear the space between the check-in panel and arXiv inbox.
  • Keep Catch up as an always-visible tab with a concise date/status and copy-prompt button.
  • Move pending filings to their own section and metadata links to the footer. Relocate existing one-tap control beside inbox actions without changing token behavior.
  • Token management and batch-selection changes are deferred.

Detailed implementation plan

In scripts/board.py, update _catch_up_html and _catch_up_md to display the coverage start and due date, with honest unknown status and the existing prompt action. Keep the underlying catch-up model and feed semantics unchanged. In _render_html, make Catch up navigation unconditional, place the inbox directly after the orchestration panel, and place Catch up and pending filings after reading content. Preserve the shared theme/navigation components. Update tests/test_board.py for healthy/stale/unknown summaries, section order, existing prompt and action preservation. Run targeted and full repository checks and inspect rendered output.

Branch survey: PyAutoMemory main has existing bibliography/wiki edits; no conflicting active claim. Recent branches: main, chore/session-start-hook-regen. Use isolated .worktrees/compact-memory-board/PyAutoMemory from origin/main.

Suggested branch: feature/compact-memory-board
Tier: undeclared — merge mode: human /prm.

Layout-only implementation complete; token management deferred as requested.

    Branch: feature/compact-memory-board
    Base: 30ee431
    Changed: scripts/board.py, tests/test_board.py
Validation: 109 board tests and 276 full-suite tests passed; make validate passed (citations, structure, existing wikilink ratchet); git diff --check passed.
Review: diff inspected; existing catch-up evidence/feed and token JS unchanged. HTML/Markdown previews generated from actual checkout. No browser runtime available for visual viewport inspection.
No downstream library/workspace API impact; board rendering tests cover the affected surface.

Shipping blocked by Heart RED at 2026-10-14T14:45:10.619408+00:00:

    • PyAutoFit: CI failure
      Additional stale reason:
    • release validation incomplete: no rehearsal for current source

Next: explicit live development-only RED override for issue #130 or cleared Heart readiness, then commit/push/open PR. Merge remains human /prm. No application commit/push/PR yet.

    Summary

Make arXiv inbox the first content section after check-in, with Catch up and pending filings in their own navigable sections. Catch up remains available with a concise start/due date and a copy-prompt button; remove the lyric, raw prompt display and explanatory boilerplate.

Move the existing one-tap control beside inbox actions and the Markdown link to the footer. Token management is deferred; authentication behavior and catch-up evidence/feed semantics are unchanged.

    Closes #130.

    API Changes

None — internal changes only. No downstream library or workspace migration.

    Test Plan

    • Board tests: 109 passed.
    • Full repository suite: 276 passed.
    • make validate: citation metadata, repository structure and wikilink ratchet passed.
    • git diff --check and author diff review passed.
    • Actual checkout HTML/Markdown render; unique IDs and inbox-before-catch-up verified.
    • Browser visual inspection (no browser runtime available locally).

    Heart RED development override

The human replied “I authorize” to the explicit request for a development-only override for #130. This authorizes commit, push and PR creation, not merge or release.

Current exact RED reason: PyAutoFit: CI failure.
Additional stale reason: release validation incomplete: no rehearsal for current source.
    Readiness snapshot: 2026-10-14T14:45:10.619408+00:00.

Passed branch gates are listed above. Downstream smoke is not applicable to this organ-only presentation change; board rendering was exercised directly. Author review found no further issues. This change does not repair Heart. Required GitHub checks and human merge remain mandatory.

    Compact Memory board

    Merged PyAutoMemory#131 on 2026-10-14 (05e02ec), closing #130.

arXiv inbox now follows check-in; Catch up is always navigable with concise coverage/due dates and a copy button. Pending filings have their own section; metadata moves to the footer. Existing token control relocated without behavior changes.

Validation: 276 tests; make validate; author review; real HTML/Markdown rendering and unique-ID/order checks passed. GitHub head ac467e2: all runs (one validate pull_request run), jobs and steps passed. No downstream API impact. Browser viewport inspection unavailable locally.

Human development-only Heart RED override: "I authorize"; exact RED reason "PyAutoFit: CI failure"; stale "release validation incomplete: no rehearsal for current source". Separate human $prm authorized merge. This does not clear Heart.

Token management deferred by the human and retained in draft/feature/pyautomemory/reading-queue-token-management.md.
