Problem

The standard AD collection path does not currently emit delegated managed service accounts or invoke all registry collection needed by the linked dMSA analysis.

Solution

I process Label.DMSA objects through the existing LDAP consumer, resolve msDS-ManagedAccountPrecededByLink, collect access-control and containment data, and write the results to a dedicated dmsas JSON stream included in ZIP output.

I also add CurrentBuildNumber and CurrentBuildRevision to the existing DCRegistryData collection. Default collection behavior and non-DC processing remain unchanged.

This is the runtime companion to SpecterOps/SharpHoundCommon#321 and SpecterOps/BloodHound#3583.

Dependency order

The default build consumes the published 4.9.2-dev.* SharpHoundCommon package. After SpecterOps/SharpHoundCommon#321 merges into v4 and its dev package is published, this branch must select that package revision and rerun the default build.

Testing

  • dotnet msbuild Sharphound.csproj -t:Compile -p:Configuration=Release -p:CommonSource=Local -p:DisableFody=true against SharpHoundCommon head 09344aa (0 errors)

Walkthrough

Object processing now handles DMSA entries and writes them to JSON output included in ZIP archives. Domain controller processing is awaited and adds the current build number and revision to registry data.

Changes

DMSA Object Output

Layer / File(s) Summary
Process and write DMSA objects
src/Runtime/ObjectProcessors.cs, src/Runtime/OutputWriter.cs
ProcessObject routes DMSA entries to a processor that collects common properties and configured ACL, LDAP, and containment data. The output writer writes, flushes, and archives the DMSA JSON output.

Domain Controller Registry Metadata

Layer / File(s) Summary
Collect domain controller build metadata
src/Runtime/ObjectProcessors.cs
ProcessDomainController returns a Task, and its caller awaits it. DCRegistryData now includes the current build number and revision alongside the vulnerable Netlogon security descriptor.

The collector does not yet build against the SharpHoundCommon version this change cites. That version lacks the DMSA types and build-number fields the new code uses, and the default dev package is reported to predate them. Domain-controller registry data is now populated before results are written. This should not merge until a compatible SharpHoundCommon package is published and pinned.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 0.00% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Documentation-only edits and deletions within surviving functions are included; unchanged diff context and fully deleted functions are excluded. Analyzed 8 functions across 2 files.

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description has a clear problem statement, a solution section, and a testing section with a concrete build command, so the author's intent is understood. Several template sections are missing or incomplete. The Motivation and Context section does not name a linked GitHub issue or Jira ticket (the template asks for "This PR addresses:"). The Types of changes checklist is not marked. The Checklist items are not ticked, and the description does not confirm that tests were added or updated, that documentation was checked, or that the contributing prerequisites were met. The Screenshots section is absent, which is acceptable here because it is not applicable to a runtime change.

Resolution

Add the following to the pull request description: 1) A "This PR addresses:" line that links the related GitHub issue or Jira ticket. The template cites SpecterOps/BloodHound#672, but confirm that this is the correct issue for this PR. 2) Mark the applicable change type. This PR is a New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality). 3) Complete the checklist. Confirm the contributing prerequisites, and confirm that related documentation is up to date. State whether tests were added or updated to cover the dMSA processing, the ACL and containment collection, the output writer, and the new DC registry values. Confirm that all new and existing tests pass. Run the default build, not only the local-source build, once the SharpHoundCommon package is pinned.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Await ProcessDomainController before ProcessObject returns.

Line 330 calls ProcessDomainController without await. That helper is async void. It awaits _context.DoDelay() before it assigns ret.DCRegistryData. ProcessObject can return ret before that assignment runs. The callers then read the result after awaiting ProcessObject, so the DC registry fields, including the new CurrentBuildNumber and CurrentBuildRevision values, can be missing from the output.

Change the helper to return Task and await it at the call site. This is the only call site of the helper. The change also makes the DC LDAP scan finish before session collection starts, which is a sequencing cost to accept.

Use a CommonLib package that defines the new DCRegistryData members.

The PR build resolves SharpHoundCommon to 4.9.2-dev*. The selected 4.9.2-dev.202610161842 assembly does not define CurrentBuildNumber or CurrentBuildRevision, so these assignments fail the Dev build. The reported CommonSource=Local test does not validate this dependency. Publish and pin a compatible CommonLib version before merge.

I verified the updated collector against SharpHoundCommon head 09344aa using CommonSource=Local; the compile target completes with 0 errors. Build run 40509034375 is waiting for maintainer approval. This PR is ordered after SpecterOps/SharpHoundCommon#321 because the currently published 4.9.2-dev package predates the DMSA contract. After #321 publishes its dev package, I will pin that exact revision and rerun both default and local builds.

I now process delegated managed service accounts as typed objects, resolve their predecessor links, and write them to a dedicated collection file.

Critical · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Use a SharpHoundCommon revision that defines the DMSA contract.

The cited SharpHoundCommon commit d975701 does not define Label.DMSA or LDAPProperties.ManagedAccountPrecededByLink. It also does not define DataType.DMSAs, which src/Runtime/OutputWriter.cs uses at Line 67. The DMSA changes cannot compile against that revision. Update the common-library dependency to one that provides these symbols, then check both the local and default builds. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Confirmed. The default build resolves the published 4.9.2-dev.* package, which cannot contain the new DMSA contract until SharpHoundCommon #321 merges into v4 and Publish Dev Package completes. The local build against sibling Common head 09344aa compiles with 0 errors. I am keeping this thread open; after that package is published I will update the dependency revision and rerun both default and local builds.

@adilalperenciftci Understood. Your reported local build against 4e182d3 supports compatibility with that Common revision, but does not verify the published-package build. This finding remains open pending package publication, the dependency update, and successful default and local builds.
