astyle has been unmaintained since 2018 and its 3.x patch releases produce different output for the same input, causing spurious CI failures depending on which exact version is installed (e.g. PR #698). Replace it with clang-format 18, which is actively maintained, ships a machine-readable .clang-format config that is version-stable, and integrates natively with editors and CI. Changes: - Add .clang-format at the repo root (K&R brace style, 2-space indent, 128-col limit, matching the previous astyle configuration as closely as possible to minimise the reformat diff) - Replace scripts/astyle.sh + src/astylerc with scripts/clang-format-sources.sh, which supports two modes: --check print a diff of required changes, exit 1 if any file needs reformatting, exit 2 if clang-format is absent --fix reformat all sources in-place - Simplify src/Tests/Source/CheckScripts/code-style.sh to a thin automake adapter: delegates to clang-format-sources.sh and translates exit 2 (tool not available) into exit 77 (automake skip) - Add a dedicated format-check CI job in build.yml that runs clang-format-sources.sh --check on ubuntu-24.04 (ships clang-format-18 natively), independent of the build matrix; the check output includes the full diff so failures are immediately actionable - The build matrix installs clang-format-18 (falling back to the LLVM apt repo when needed) so make check --enable-full-test-suite can still catch formatting regressions locally Signed-off-by: Attila Lakatos <atttila.lakatos@gmail.com>
