BitPatch is the premier, GOG-compliant multiplayer patch and engine wrapper for Project I.G.I.-2: Covert Strike. Following the shutdown of GameSpy and Qtracker, BitPatch safely hooks into the game engine via a local wsock32.dll to restore in-game server browsing through the active OpenSpy master server, while providing essential stability fixes for modern 64-bit operating systems (Windows 10 & Windows 11).

Because BitPatch uses DLL proxying (wsock32.dll) to intercept multiplayer sockets and deploys low-level x86 memory hooks to patch 20-year-old engine crashes, antivirus engines flag it as a heuristic false positive (often labeled generically as HackTool, Gen:Variant.Yogi, or Malware.AI).

- DLL Proxying / Sideloading: BitPatch restores multiplayer without modifying original game files on disk. It loads alongside
igi2.exevia Windows dynamic link library proxying (wsock32.dll). Security suites flag unknown custom DLL proxies by default. - Engine Memory Patching: To fix game-breaking memory corruptions (such as
0xCDCDCDCDheap crashes, buffer overflows, and FPU stack faults), BitPatch allocates safe memory caves (PAGE_EXECUTE_READWRITE) and hooks game instructions in RAM. - Legacy Trainer Heuristics: The
Yogidetection tag used by several scanners is a 20-year-old signature for I.G.I.-2 memory trainers. Because BitPatch hooks the exact same game addresses to block cheats and trainers, heuristic scanners mistake the mitigation for the exploit. - No Code-Signing Certificate: BitPatch is a non-commercial, community-led freeware modification. Commercial Authenticode certificates cost hundreds of dollars annually, meaning new binary hashes must establish cloud reputation over time.
