Convert src/common/types from Flow to TypeScript

This PR converts src/common/types from JavaScript with Flow to TypeScript.

Changes

  • Migrated eight type modules to .ts: annotations, api, feed, metadata, metadataQueries, skills, tasks, upload
  • Renamed former Flow implementations to .js.flow stubs for backward compatibility
  • Updated consumers where real types replaced implicit any: content explorer (metadata query QueryParams, side panel / view container filter wiring), content uploader (onComplete, upload queue suppressions), content sidebar (taxonomy fetcher local option type, metadata fetcher error callback), uploads helpers (type guards), Xhr, ContentSharingV2, withCurrentUser, and related unit tests.

Contract

  • Declared Flow type contracts preserved via .js.flow stubs
  • Type-only consumer adjustments; no intentional runtime behavior changes (query_params typed as boolean | number | string to match API/metadata query usage; ContentUploader.onComplete accepts BoxItem[] | UploadItem[])

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Improvements

    • Uploads now handle wrapped files and folders without optional settings, with more reliable item names and default settings.
    • Improved metadata filtering and upload action handling.
    • Added shared type definitions supporting annotations, activity feeds, metadata, tasks, skills, uploads, and API requests.
  • Bug Fixes

    • Corrected metadata filter defaults.
    • Improved error handling when response details are unavailable during content sharing.

Walkthrough

The change adds shared TypeScript contracts for API, feed, annotation, metadata, skills, tasks, and uploads. It applies type annotations and type guards across component and utility code, updates uploader callback signatures, and permits XHR construction without a token. Upload wrapper handling now recognizes wrappers without options and uses the wrapped entry name for IDs.

Changes

Shared Types and TypeScript Updates

Layer / File(s) Summary
Core shared contracts
src/common/types/api.ts, src/common/types/annotations.ts, src/common/types/feed.ts, src/common/types/tasks.ts, src/common/types/skills.ts, src/common/types/upload.ts
Adds shared API, feed, annotation, task, skill-card, and upload contracts.
Metadata contracts and query integration
src/common/types/metadata.ts, src/common/types/metadataQueries.ts, src/common/types/metadata.js.flow, src/elements/content-explorer/*, src/elements/content-sidebar/fetchers/metadataTaxonomyFetcher.ts
Adds metadata and query contracts. Applies shared types to metadata queries, taxonomy entries, templates, fields, and filters.
Upload callbacks and wrapper handling
src/elements/content-uploader/*, src/utils/uploads.ts, src/utils/uploads.js.flow, src/utils/__tests__/uploads.test.ts
Updates uploader callbacks and upload wrapper type guards. Wrappers without options use default options and return the wrapped entry name for IDs. Tests cover these cases.
Component and request typing
src/elements/common/current-user/withCurrentUser.tsx, src/elements/content-sharing/ContentSharingV2.tsx, src/elements/content-sidebar/hooks/useSidebarMetadataFetcher.ts, src/utils/Xhr.ts, src/utils/Xhr.js.flow, src/utils/__tests__/sorter.test.ts
Adds explicit component and request typing. XHR accepts an optional token, and content sharing checks for a response before reading its status.

Small runtime fix here: the guards used to require truthy options, but options is optional on UploadFileWithAPIOptions / UploadDataTransferItemWithAPIOptions. So { file } was treated as a plain File, and getFileId returned undefined. Wrappers are now recognized by file / item. Plain files and { file, options } (what the uploader actually passes) behave exactly as before. Same change in the .js.flow stub.

Follow-up to the guard fix: a wrapper without options returns the plain name, as the JSDoc describes, instead of falling through to Date.now(), which would give a different ID on every call.

These look swapped, and they were. ItemList / UploadsManager / actionCellRenderer pass the handler the UploadItem, while ItemRemove wires onClick straight to the button. The old types were the other way around and only passed because these types were any in TS.

onComplete really does get both shapes: boxFiles in the non-manager paths and UploadItem[] with the uploads manager, so the type is now a union. No runtime change.

The @ts-expect-error at L588 is the same "folder items have no file" situation as the existing $FlowFixMe below. Flow didn't flag it before because folderUploads was untyped.

Date was never produced here: range values from @box/metadata-filter are number | string, and dates arrive already stringified. boolean matches MetadataQuery.query_params, which gets merged with these. Type-only.

No behavior change. The shouldRenderChip on the synthetic name field was never read, because the .map below sets it on each filter itself. selected: false is required by @box/metadata-view's FilterOption type, and the package only ever sets it, never reads it from the filters we pass in. Its own predefined filters use the same default.

Our MetadataTemplate type lacks type, while @box/metadata-editor's requires it. The runtime object comes from the template-schema API and does include it. I kept the cast local rather than touching the shared type and its Flow stub.

Known gap, intentionally not fixed in this PR: ElementsXhrError can be a plain object, but onError is typed as Error. The behavior is unchanged from master. The proper fix is widening the public onError type (or normalizing the value), which should be done separately.

Move src/common/types modules to TypeScript with Flow stubs and fix
consumer typing surfaced by real types (uploads, metadata query, explorer).
