Summary

The catalog sync now records every episode it adds in the episode book and names its vector by the episode's served ID, so new vectors carry their identity from the start.

Motivation

The book and its bootstrap (#1146) give existing vectors their identity, but stage 4 kept adding vectors named only by their Podcast Index ID, with no book row and no stamps. Each run widened the gap the bootstrap had to close. Stage 4 also deleted and re-embedded an episode whenever Podcast Index changed its ID.

What changed

  • lib/episode-identity.js: for each episode in a show's window, its catalog key and recipe ID. A key already in the book keeps its served ID; a new key's served ID is its current Podcast Index ID. Keyless items keep today's naming and get eid_missing. The first of two items with one key wins.
  • Stage 4
    • Before embedding, it reads the book's served IDs for the window and writes rows for new episodes (and aliases for changed Podcast Index IDs) in one turso.atomic() batch, so identity is committed before any vector.
    • Points are named and keyed by the served ID and stamped with eid and catalog_key. A Podcast Index ID change no longer re-embeds the episode.
    • If the book write fails, that show keeps today's naming for the run, unstamped.
    • The summary line adds book … rows · renamed … · book errors ….
  • Bootstrap --catch-up: takes only shows that still have points with neither eid nor eid_missing, with its own state file.
  • bootstrapShow takes a source (pi for stage 4).

Behavior & compatibility

  • Listeners: no change. For episodes Podcast Index hasn't renumbered, the served ID is the same Podcast Index ID clients already have, so payload IDs and point names don't change.
  • Deploy: the sync runs outside GitHub Actions. The bootstrap and stage 4 never overlap (both hold the shared job lock), so no per-show fence is needed.

Changed

  • The catalog sync records new episodes in the episode book, names their vectors by served ID, and no longer re-embeds an episode when Podcast Index changes its ID.

README What's New / Upcoming (required for user-impact changes)

Test plan

  • npm run test:sync --prefix scripts: 138 tests. 4 are new: new episodes named by their Podcast Index ID with a queued book row, a changed Podcast Index ID keeping the served name and becoming an alias, duplicate and keyless items, and reading served IDs (digit-only keys included) from a real SQLite book.
  • The catch-up filter (is_empty on eid and eid_missing) checked against the live Qdrant collection.
  • Required checks are green before merge

…in the book

Stage 4 resolves each window episode's catalog key and recipe ID, writes new episodes' book rows before their vectors, keeps a point's name when Podcast Index changes its ID (recording the new ID as an alias), and stamps eid and catalog_key on new points. The bootstrap gains --catch-up for points left unstamped.

📝 Summary

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features

    • Episodes with catalog identities now retain their existing point IDs when Podcast Index IDs change, with aliases recorded for updated IDs.
    • Episodes without catalog identities are marked accordingly. A catch-up option can record identities for eligible existing shows.
    • Sync results now include counts for episode-book rows, renamed episodes, and book errors.
  • Bug Fixes

    • If identity resolution or episode-book writes fail, the affected show uses its previous naming behavior for that run.

Stage 4 now resolves episode identities through the episode book, writes served IDs and identity stamps to vector payloads, and records aliases when Podcast Index IDs change. The bootstrap script adds a catch-up mode for shows with unstamped points.

Changes: Episode Catalog Identity

Layer / File(s) Summary
Identity resolution and episode book
scripts/sync/lib/episode-identity.js, scripts/sync/lib/episode-book.js, scripts/sync/lib/episode-identity.test.js
The identity helpers reuse known served IDs, create rows for new catalog keys, record aliases for changed Podcast Index IDs, and stamp keyless episodes. bootstrapShow accepts a source option. Tests cover identity resolution and served-ID lookup.
Stage 4 identity integration
scripts/sync/04-vectorize-episodes.js, scripts/README.md, scripts/package.json
Stage 4 initializes the episode book, resolves identities, and uses resolved served IDs and stamps in vector payloads. If identity lookup or writes fail, that run uses the prior naming without stamps. The summary reports book rows, renamed episodes, and book errors. The README and test script include the identity changes and tests.
Catch-up bootstrap
scripts/sync/bootstrap-book.js
--catch-up selects shows with points that lack both eid and eid_missing. Catch-up runs use separate state files and distinct start and completion messages.

Resolve the served-ID collision before merging: affected episodes may not retain distinct identities, and the documented catch-up path cannot recover shows that become unstamped after its first pass. Duplicate-key shows can also retain stale points until a later trim.

Explanation

PASS. The PR changes only scripts/sync and its tests/docs. It does not add Android module dependencies, feature-to-feature imports, PostHog, Hilt/Koin/Dagger/MockK, PlaybackRepository, or AppContainer construction. The identity changes use the existing episode_book, served_id, catalog_key, and recipe-ID contracts; no Android identity or storage rename requires migration.

Full details: Module Readme Updated

Explanation

The pull request changes only files under scripts/. It changes no production Kotlin under app/src/main/, core/<module>/src/main/, or feature/<module>/src/main/. Therefore, this check does not require a module README.md change.

Full details: Jvm Tests For Changed Logic

Explanation

The PR changes Node.js sync scripts under scripts/, not JVM production logic such as Android engines, repositories, ViewModels, or src/.../logic helpers. It adds hermetic node:test coverage in scripts/sync/lib/episode-identity.test.js and includes it in test:sync; no JVM test is required for this non-JVM change.

Full details: Unresolved Review Threads

Explanation

Three outstanding review findings remain unresolved: two Minor findings and one Major finding. They concern duplicate-key pruning in 04-vectorize-episodes.js, completed --catch-up state blocking later passes in bootstrap-book.js, and served-ID collision handling in episode-identity.js. No resolved or dismissed status is provided.

Resolution

Fix all three findings and mark each review thread resolved, or explicitly dismiss each finding with a short rationale before merge.

Explanation

Docstring coverage is 44.44% which is insufficient. The required threshold is 80.00%. Docstring coverage is scoped to functions touched by this diff. Analyzed 9 functions across 5 files. (2 skipped: 2 unsupported.)

Resolution

Write docstrings for the functions missing them to satisfy the coverage threshold.

`windowEps.length` rather than the deduplicated `eps.length`, so pruning
reflects whether the fetched window is full even when `resolveIdentities` drops
duplicate keys.

CATCH_UP is enabled and st.idx is at or beyond st.shows.length, so the script
starts a fresh pass and calls listShows() again; preserve existing state-resume
behavior for incomplete passes and non-catch-up runs.

Review comments at @scripts/sync/lib/episode-identity.js:
- Around line 53-65: Update `resolveIdentities` to load the show’s served IDs by
value and detect when a new key reuses a `piId` already served under another
key. Resolve collisions with a distinct point identity or defer the colliding
point, and isolate it from the batch passed to `bootstrapShow` so unrelated new
episodes are still recorded.

…ch-up

A new key whose PI ID is already served for another key is deferred instead of failing the show's book write. pruneIsSafe uses the fetched window length, so folded duplicates don't skip pruning. A finished --catch-up state starts a new pass.
