FrontLit skills

Agent skills for FrontLit.

Skill What it does
frontlit-docs Write FrontLit docs, or port an existing docs site (Fumadocs, Docusaurus, Mintlify, Nextra, GitBook, VitePress) to FrontLit and open a pull request
frontlit-pages Write and design FrontLit landing pages: as JSON in the repository (frontlit/pages/*.json, frontlit/site.json, validated before a pull request) or in the visual builder. Includes website branding through MCP, design and background recipes, site-wide theme creation, and Embed snippets with a headless-Chrome test harness

Install

Any agent that supports skills (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Copilot…):

npx skills add codelitdev/frontlit-skills

This installs both frontlit-docs and frontlit-pages as standalone skills. It does not automatically register or authenticate an MCP server.

Claude Code plugin:

/plugin marketplace add codelitdev/frontlit-skills
/plugin install frontlit@frontlit

The frontlit plugin contains both skills and bundles the remote FrontLit MCP connection in its root .mcp.json. After installing, open /mcp to authenticate with FrontLit and select the intended team. If you already added the same endpoint yourself, Claude Code uses your connection and skips the plugin's copy. Installation does not grant account access or publish anything.

If you installed the earlier frontlit-docs or frontlit-pages plugins, uninstall them and install frontlit instead.

Codex plugin:

codex plugin marketplace add codelitdev/frontlit-skills
codex plugin add frontlit@frontlit
codex mcp login frontlit

Codex installs the same plugin, both skills and the bundled FrontLit MCP connection; codex mcp login frontlit authenticates it.

Optional MCP connection for standalone skills

Repository authoring works without MCP. Connect it when you want live source/status queries, server validation, builder-owned page edits, or website branding changes:

# Claude Code; then open /mcp to authenticate
claude mcp add --transport http frontlit https://api.frontlit.app/mcp

# Codex; then complete OAuth and choose the required scopes
codex mcp add frontlit --url https://api.frontlit.app/mcp
codex mcp login frontlit

Other clients can add https://api.frontlit.app/mcp as a remote Streamable HTTP server. OAuth binds the connection to the team selected during authorization; tools enforce the granted scopes. No API key or token is bundled.

A standalone SKILL.md is portable workflow guidance, not a universal MCP installer. The frontlit plugin packages the connection alongside its skills for Claude Code and Codex. Other plugin-capable hosts need their own supported manifest/configuration; ordinary skill installation should not be assumed to load plugin-level .mcp.json. Codex also supports MCP dependency declarations in agents/openai.yaml; these skills do not declare MCP as a required dependency because their Git workflows work without it.

Change Source
Website name, subtitle or logo FrontLit branding: get_team_settings / update_team_settings, even when pages are Git-managed
One page's SEO title or description Page JSON in Git, or builder SEO / MCP update_page for builder-owned pages
A page's visible heading The hero block title
Git-managed header, footer, theme or redirects site.json

For example, “Set the site title to John's Piping Pizza” updates branding through update_team_settings({"title": "John's Piping Pizza"}); changing the homepage SEO title alone does not complete that request. If MCP is unavailable, the skills point to Website → Branding → Site title and report that operation as pending.

Use

For Git workflows, connect your repository in FrontLit (Settings → Integrations → GitHub) first. Builder and branding workflows use the existing FrontLit website without requiring Git sync. Example requests:

Use the frontlit-docs skill to port my existing docs to FrontLit and open a pull request.
Use the frontlit-pages skill to add a pricing page and link it from the header.
Use the frontlit-pages skill to redesign our homepage in the FrontLit builder, as a draft.
Use the frontlit-pages skill to set our website name to John's Piping Pizza.

With Git sync, both skills work on the repository's FrontLit site folder (frontlit/ by default): docs in docs/, pages in pages/, header, footer and theme in site.json.

Keeping in sync

  • frontlit-docs: references/format.md and scripts/check.mjs mirror FrontLit's Markdown importer and validator. Update them whenever those rules change in the FrontLit repository.
  • frontlit-pages: scripts/schema/page.v1.json and site.v1.json are copies of packages/page-builder/schema/ in the FrontLit repository (generated by bun run schema:generate there). Copy them again whenever block settings change, then, from plugins/frontlit/skills/frontlit-pages/examples, run node ../scripts/check.mjs frontlit/pages --fix (the examples must stay valid and canonical) and update references/blocks.md. The import rules in scripts/check.mjs and references/format.md (file names, reserved routes, content feeds, link and image checks) mirror apps/api/src/pages/git-import.ts.
  • frontlit-pages backgrounds: references/background-presets.json is exported from FrontLit's packages/page-builder/src/builder/controls/pattern-presets.ts (the builder's Pattern presets). Re-export it when presets change.
  • frontlit-pages embeds: references/embeds.md and scripts/test-embed.mjs mirror FrontLit's packages/page-builder/src/components/inline-embed.tsx (prepareEmbed, script handling); update them when that file changes.
  • MCP routing: references/mcp.md in each skill follows FrontLit apps/api/src/mcp/tools/ and packages/api-contract/src/schemas/. Refresh tool names, input examples, ownership fields and scope guidance when those contracts change. Branding uses flat team settings fields; website.branding.title describes the product concept, not the MCP argument shape. The deployed tool schema remains authoritative.
  • Plugin connections: plugins/frontlit/.mcp.json must use the remote endpoint documented in FrontLit apps/docs/content/docs/developers/mcp.mdx. Keep them free of credentials and bump the version in plugins/frontlit/.claude-plugin/plugin.json when shipping skill/config updates.
