Description

Two /research/ media issues from dark-mode QA, plus the Worthington-jet figure swap:

  1. Paper [2] (and [1]) YouTube playlist embeds showed Video unavailable on play. Both used youtube-nocookie.com/embed/videoseries?si=…&list=…. Every video in those playlists is public (oEmbed 200), so the failure is the playlist-only videoseries embed path (plus share si), not a deleted/private item. On click, YouTube never binds a concrete playable id.

  2. Paper [25] stacked elasticity-bubble-pinch-off.png above the portrait elasticity-bubble-pinch-off.mp4, so the tall clip dominated the card and looked unconsidered.

  3. Worthington jets (WIP): replace the 0.629-only collapse image with Supplemental Fig. S3 showing unscaled / α=2/3 / α=0.629 for pre-inception cavity and post-inception jet.

Type of Change

  • Bug fix
  • New feature
  • Content update (Team/Publication)
  • Documentation update
  • Other (please describe)

Changes Made

  • Paper [2]: embed/uOcaFduOnrg?list=PLf5C5HCrvhLE6jNYonsmX3l3Ab0Y3lNZ5&rel=0 (chain playlist stays reachable).
  • Paper [1] (same failure in full /research/ audit): embed/Afswba7rFTo?list=PLf5C5HCrvhLEc8TUdAPz3FLbUWW3OFLTv&rel=0.
  • Dropped si= share params on those two embeds.
  • Paper [25]: wrap figure + <video> in .research-media-row (research-v2.css): desktop row, mobile stack, --c-paper + --r-lg panels, height-capped portrait clip (width/height: auto, no stretch). Responsive plugin still emits intrinsic dims only when safe; CSS keeps aspect (PR Fix research figure aspect ratio distortion #157 lesson).
  • Worthington WIP figure: rasterised supplemental-figures/interface-collapse-comparison-v1.pdf → self-similar-worthington-jet-collapse-v3.png (+ WebP variants). Kept …-v2.png in tree. Updated alt text for unscaled / 2/3 / 0.629.
  • Other /research/ YouTube embeds audited; only [2] and [1] failed the play-click check.

Broken embeds fixed in this PR

Paper Old New start video
[2] Sanjay & Das 2017 (liquid chain) embed/videoseries?si=…&list=PLf5C5HCrvhLE6jNYonsmX3l3Ab0Y3lNZ5 uOcaFduOnrg + same list
[1] Sanjay & Das 2017 (air entrainment) embed/videoseries?si=…&list=PLf5C5HCrvhLEc8TUdAPz3FLbUWW3OFLTv Afswba7rFTo + same list

Worthington figure — arXiv publishability

This comparison figure is already in the public arXiv record for 2607.08972 (current v3):

  • Present in the public TeX source tarball as supplemental-figures/interface-collapse-comparison-v1.pdf (byte-identical to the file fetched from comphy-lab/self-similar-worthington-jets-arxiv).
  • Referenced in the paper / supplemental as Fig. S3 (“Comparison of the two similarity exponents…”, columns unscaled / α=2/3 / α=0.629).
  • anc/ on arXiv only ships the three SM videos; the PDF lives in the source tree, not as a separate anc file.

Still worth Vatsal’s OK that promoting S3 onto the lab site is intended, but it is not private-revision-only.

Testing Done

  • Tested locally using bundle exec jekyll serve (built _site + python3 -m http.server)
  • Checked all links and references
  • Verified content formatting
  • Cross-browser testing (if UI changes)
  • ./scripts/lint-check.sh ✅
  • npm test ✅ (215 tests)
  • npm run lint ✅
  • ./scripts/build.sh ✅
  • Headless Chrome: production videoseries for [1]/[2] → Video unavailable on click; fixed embed/<id>?list= loads player chrome for the chain title / playlist (datacenter IP may still hit YouTube’s bot interstitial).
  • Layout metrics: 1280 side-by-side for [25]; 390 column stack; Worthington v3 undistorted at 1280/390 light+dark (width="75%", no invented height).

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Research publication media is presented in a responsive figure-and-video layout, stacking on smaller screens and appearing side by side on larger screens.
    • The Worthington-jet image shows the cavity collapse and jet both unscaled and rescaled using exponents 2/3 and 0.629.
    • The two 2017 publication embeds now use individual videos instead of playlist embeds.

Paper [2] and [1] used embed/videoseries?list=...&si=..., which shows
Video unavailable on play even though playlist videos are public.
Switch to youtube-nocookie embed/<id>?list=...&rel=0 so playback
starts on a concrete chain/entrainment video with the playlist intact.

Paper [25] stacked a landscape figure above a tall portrait clip.
Add .research-media-row (--c-paper, --r-lg) for a balanced desktop
row with height-capped video, stacking cleanly at mobile widths.

399-399: 🎯 Functional Correctness

Do not treat the screenshot as evidence that this embed fails.

The screenshot does not identify the embed revision that produced it. The source confirms that paper [2] now uses the uOcaFduOnrg video with its playlist, but playback and playlist navigation remain undecided without a non-datacentre playback result.

Increase the figure selector specificity.

The figure is inside .research-content and does not match the Shields exclusion. The higher-specificity rule therefore applies margin: 12px 0 and border-radius: 12px, leaving visible panel background around the image instead of a full-panel figure.

Review: Fix research YouTube playlist embeds and paper [25] media row

Reviewed bc1fef5f75ee25f82c16c51eb4f1357e5c961b2d against base adfc76b31231d907a502a61b8bbf0f0240f557c9: +135/-10 across three reviewable source files, with five binary image assets excluded from textual coverage. All 5 required review units are complete. No P0/P1 findings.

Findings

P2: see the comment #158 (comment) by coderabbitai

Verification

  • Inspected the responsive media markup, breakpoint rules, image-manifest integration and existing reduced-motion handling; the nested clip remains covered by the research-page video selector.
  • Parent-verified and deduplicated the existing CSS specificity finding against this exact head. It is non-blocking.
  • Fresh GitHub checks: build, content-rules, PR hygiene and CodeRabbit passed; deploy was skipped. Structural conflict-marker checks passed.
  • This review did not rerun the site/browser tests or independently verify YouTube playback. After the scoped selector fix, check figure margins/corners at mobile and desktop widths in both themes.

Approved with the non-blocking note above.
