Release notes open in a tab, read from the version's GitHub release (releases/tags/v<version>, never latest, which can be a diffr release). The sidebar shows Recent beside it, as it does beside Settings. Review commit by commit.

  1. The Release notes tab. "Whiteboard: Show Release Notes", the feedback dialog's Release notes button and the post-update toast's What's New open it.
  2. The first launch after an update opens the tab instead of the "updated" toast when the release's notes contain <!-- whiteboard:show-notes -->, so quiet patches only toast. update.showReleaseNotes turns this off, from the tab's checkbox or Settings > Notifications. Otherwise the toast shows.

GitHub's <img> tags become Markdown images and lose their width, so screenshots fill the column.

Not exercised: a real relaunch into an update.
