Add parsing and handling of #pragma GCC diagnostic [GH #182] - #248
The #pragma GCC diagnostic family previously issued a warning for unrecognized pragmas. They are now parsed and handled so that they can be emitted in the resulting code.
Added support for recognizing GCC diagnostic pragmas, including warning controls and push/pop directives. Supported forms vary by compiler mode and version.
Bug Fixes
Supported diagnostic pragmas no longer trigger unrecognized-pragma warnings. Invalid or unsupported forms and missing or malformed options continue to produce diagnostics.
Tests
Added coverage for supported and invalid pragma forms across compiler modes and versions.
The preprocessor now recognizes supported #pragma GCC diagnostic forms, subject to compiler-mode and GNU-version conditions. Regression tests cover supported and malformed forms. Imported test expectations remove warnings for recognized pragmas.
Adds a pragma-kind value and dispatch logic for diagnostic directives. Supported forms include error, warning, and ignored; push and pop depend on GNU version, ignored_attributes requires GNU 12 or later, and fatal requires Clang mode. Action forms warn when the argument is missing or is not a narrow string literal.
edgcpp/compiler#82 — The issue concerns GCC diagnostic pragmas in generated C, but its stated __dummy padding-field cause is separate and is not addressed here.

Merge Risk: Moderate · up to 20aaa
Generated C diagnostics can be suppressed or enabled over the wrong region, and one supported configuration silently accepts an unsupported pragma. These issues should be fixed before merge.
Security architecture risk: Minimal · up to 20aaa
The change uses the existing pragma-processing pipeline without introducing new privileges or execution paths. C++ output retains its existing pass-through behavior, while C output stops emitting recognized diagnostic pragmas that it cannot position correctly. No material security risk was identified in these changes.
Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security Blast Radius
inferred — The relevant exposure is compiler input influencing diagnostic acceptance and downstream generated-code diagnostics. The inspected change does not expand C++ pass-through authority; recognized directives instead cease reaching the C-output sink.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Recognition checks the diagnostic form, compiler mode or version where applicable, and the operand’s string-literal character kind. These are compatibility checks, not a restriction on downstream C++ warning-control authority: the preserved pragma text still reaches the existing backend emitter.

Explanation
The title names the main change: parsing and handling of #pragma GCC diagnostic. The raw summary confirms that src/il_def.h adds the gcc_pk_diagnostic pragma kind, and src/preproc.c adds process_gnu_diagnostic_pragma to recognize diagnostic push/pop and the error, warning, ignored, fatal, and ignored_attributes kinds. The test expectations drop the unrecognized GCC pragma warnings, and the pending-changes entry describes the same behavior. The GH #182 reference matches the linked issue, which asks that these pragmas stop producing unrecognized-pragma warnings.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #182 is the only active directly linked issue. Its coding requirement [#182]: GNU mode must accept #pragma GCC diagnostic push, #pragma GCC diagnostic ignored "-Wunused-parameter", and #pragma GCC diagnostic pop silently at gnu_version 150000, without warning #1675-D. Whole-PR diff (merge base to head) of src/preproc.c adds process_gnu_diagnostic_pragma. gcc_pragma now dispatches the diagnostic identifier to this helper. For push and pop, the helper returns recognized when clang_mode or gnu_version >= 40600. For ignored, it returns recognized and requires a plain-char string literal, otherwise it emits ec_exp_string_literal. Recognized forms set the kind to gcc_pk_diagnostic (src/il_def.h), so the unrecognized-GCC-pragma path is skipped. The reproducer forms therefore produce no unrecognized-pragma warning at gnu_version 150000. Regression tests tests/tests/regressions/gh-182.sft.cpp, gh-182b.sft.cpp, and gh-182-negative.sft.cpp, with their .rto fixtures, cover accepted and malformed forms. Limits: the test suite was not executed. The verdict relies on source inspection and on the fixture summaries.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All source changes relate to #182. src/preproc.c adds the diagnostic-pragma helper and its dispatch. src/il_def.h adds the gcc_pk_diagnostic enum member. src/pending_changes/gh-182-gcc-diagnostic-pragmas.txt documents the new behavior. The new regression tests and their .rto fixtures exercise the new handler. The many expected-output edits remove the unrecognized-GCC-pragma diagnostics that the new handler now accepts. Checked case: tests/tests/imported/gnu/c/.pragma-diag-5.rto/default.1.1.txt. The remaining unrecognized-pragma warnings for lines 4 and 7 now show caret positions at the token after diagnostic. The line 9 warning for ignored "-Wfoo" is removed because that form is now accepted. The caret change follows from the helper consuming tokens before the warning is issued. It does not fall outside the scope of #182. Reviewer note: the caret for the line 4 warning now points past the end of the pragma text, which may be a less useful location. This is a side effect inside scope, not an out-of-scope change. Limits: the .pr69543 expected-output change, which replaces the pragma warnings with a yyvsp warning at a different line, was judged from the summary and not from the fixture file.

ignored_attributes must not be accepted in Clang mode.
The handler accepts #pragma GCC diagnostic ignored_attributes when gnu_version >= 120000, regardless of whether Clang mode is active. However, the regression test expects this pragma to be unrecognized in Clang mode. A user can invoke --clang --gnu_version=120000, which causes the pragma to be accepted, violating the documented contract.
The gnu_version >= 120000 gate for ignored_attributes must check !clang_mode to reject this pragma in Clang mode, consistent with the pattern used for the fatal kind and the regression contract.

Update the diagnostic-kind dispatch so the gnu_version gate for
ignored_attributes also requires !clang_mode. Preserve acceptance at GNU version
120000 and above outside Clang mode, while rejecting this pragma in Clang mode.
