Release 0.8.9 - #499
Release 0.8.9#499
Conversation
The custom JavaScript fields print inside <script>, so a pasted <meta name="google-site-verification"> never reached the page and Search Console could not verify the site. The new field takes the tags the services hand out (Google, Bing, Yandex, Pinterest, Facebook), keeps only the name/content of a verification tag and prints them in the <head> of every public page. Anything else pasted (scripts, robots, description) is dropped and the admin is told how many lines were ignored.
Not found and pagination
- The 404 page set $pageTitle/$metaDescription, which the layout never reads: it was indexable, titled with the site name and canonical to the missing URL. It now sets the $seo* inputs, noindex, and no canonical.
- A page past the last one (catalogue, author, publisher, genre, events) answered 200 with an empty, self-canonical page: now a 404.
- "/catalogo/" and every other trailing-slash variant answered 404. The not-found handlers now answer 301 to the address without the slash (GET/HEAD only, never to a protocol-relative Location).
Meta and structured data
- Catalogue page 2+ repeated page 1's title and description; the catalogue description was 172 characters and its schema called the library "Biblioteca Digitale". The book page's Library entity carried the same generic sentence; it now uses the site description.
- Author biography and photo now reach the meta description, og:image and Person (photo as an absolute URL); the publisher page publishes an Organization with its website and address.
- Contact, privacy and cookie pages get a description from their own text instead of all sharing the site description.
- inLanguage is a BCP 47 code ("it", "en"), not the stored "italiano".
- The home publishes the library as a Library entity whether or not a logo is set, with the contact email and phone; descriptions are kept on one line (also in llms.txt, where a line break broke the blockquote).
- The events page pointed og:image at a missing /assets/social.jpg; an empty events listing is now noindex.
- Emeroteca: an issue's description was its title repeated; the issue cover and the masthead logo now become og:image.
- Archive links use rawurlencode, the encoding of the canonical URL.
Sitemap
- feed.xml is no longer listed (not an HTML page; announced by <link rel="alternate">).
- Parent genres are listed when their books sit in subgenres; publishers and genres carry lastmod.
- Events are left out when the events page is switched off (they answered 404); the events index is listed when there are events.
Tests: tests/seo-audit.spec.js (12 HTTP checks, all failing on the previous code) and tests/seo-audit.unit.php.
The date pickers of the loan request popup were full-width only under 420px; on a desktop they stayed flatpickr's fixed 308px box in the middle of a 720px popup. The full-width rules now apply at every width, with 44px rounded cells instead of stretched circles. tests/loan-calendar-width.spec.js checks the width on desktop and phone, and that a reader can go four months ahead, start on the last day of a month and move the return calendar on.
…when it passes
- Loan approved (a loan that starts later) gets {{giorni_ritiro}} and {{scadenza_ritiro}}: the deadline the start day will set. The new default text ships to new installs only (installer seeds); a template already stored in the database is left as it is.
- New Pickup reminder email, sent loans.pickup_reminder_days (default 2, 0 = off, Settings > Loans) before the pickup deadline, once per deadline (prestiti.pickup_reminder_sent_for, self-healing column); not on the day the ready-for-pickup email went out.
- In-app notice to the staff when the maintenance sweep expires a pickup.
- The scheduled-loan message on the book page names the start date, the pickup days and the deadline.
Tests: tests/pickup-reminder.unit.php.
- Verification field: a tag inside an HTML comment is not published; dropped lines are counted line by line, so two good tags on one line no longer hide a dropped line; the textarea is escaped with htmlspecialchars(ENT_QUOTES). - Sitemap: genre ancestors are walked in PHP at any depth (the archive lists the whole subtree); a genre's lastmod includes its own change date. - Tests: waitForFunction gets its options as the third argument; settings forms wait for the POST answer and the redirect instead of networkidle; Flatpickr is driven through page.evaluate(); the calendar fixture excludes books held by a pending request with an assigned copy.
…ings E2E
The template editor checks that declared placeholders match the ones in the text, so {{giorni_ritiro}} is declared where the default text uses it (Loan approved). It is still passed to the ready, expired and reminder emails, so an admin can add it to those texts.
tests/pickup-reminder-settings.spec.js saves the notice from Settings > Loans, checks the server clamp (0 off, 99 -> 30) and that the template editor lists Pickup reminder.
- {{giorni_ritiro}} is the days from the start of the pickup window to the deadline actually set: a loan shorter than the window caps the deadline at its end, and the email no longer promises the full configured days.
- French pickup texts read the deadline day as inclusive, like the Italian "entro il": "au plus tard le" / "d'ici cette date" instead of "avant" (shipped texts, installer seed rows 3 and 28, staff notice). The same wording in the shipped Ready for pickup text is fixed too.
- Verification tags: only whole attribute names are read, so data_name=/data_content= no longer pass for name=/content=. - Genre sitemap: start from the genres that hold books and climb to the roots in batches of prepared IN() lookups, instead of loading the whole generi table; depth still uncapped. - seo-audit.spec.js: fixture values are saved as HEX() and restored with UNHEX(), so a newline or backslash in a biography or address survives the run; the published sitemap is invalidated after the cleanup so it never lists the removed fixture genre.
The in-app notice for an expired pickup was written after the commit, so a failed insert was lost for good: the loan was already `scaduto` and the sweep never selects it again. The notice is now part of the expiry transaction and a failure rolls the expiry back, so the next sweep retries both. The approval-email test now asserts the variables the email was actually sent with, captured from the transport, instead of recomputing them with the private helpers under test.
…cess
Two fixture bugs surfaced in CI:
- db() trimmed the mysql output, which also dropped the trailing tab of an empty last column. An author photo stored as '' was then read as undefined and written back as UNHEX('defed'), failing the restore. Only the final newline is stripped now, and unhex() refuses anything that is not a HEX() value.
- With the APCu backend the cached book page lives in Apache's memory, so the CLI generation bump never reached it and the book page kept its pre-fixture language. The spec now also calls the shared flushCache() helper, which clears the cache from inside the app process.

migrate_0.8.9.sql adds prestiti.pickup_reminder_sent_for for upgraded installations, with tests/migration-0.8.9.unit.php running the real file against the 0.8.8 shape twice.

Every commit of #497 (up to becd988) and #498 (up to 8bce380) already had a Pullfrog review with no open findings. This review therefore covers the two merges and the release commit 6343637. I also checked the merged tree as a whole.
- Merges: both are conflict-free, and
git show --ccshows no resolved hunks. migrate_0.8.9.sql: it addsprestiti.pickup_reminder_sent_for date DEFAULT NULLbehind the sameINFORMATION_SCHEMAcheck andPREPAREpattern thatmigrate_0.8.6-rc.1.sqluses, so a second run does nothing. The column type matchesschema.sqland the self-heal inNotificationService. The column is the last one inprestitiin both cases, so a fresh install and an upgrade end up with the same column order.tests/migration-0.8.9.unit.php: runs the real migration file twice against a scoped copy of the table. It checks the column shape and the NULL default, and that existing rows and a stored value survive the second run. It drops the table infinally.- Release metadata:
version.jsonis 0.8.9 and the CHANGELOG has an exact## [0.8.9]heading. The README now leads with v0.8.9 and moves 0.8.8 down to the earlier highlights. The highestrequires_appof any bundled plugin is 0.8.7, which is at or below 0.8.9. - Checks on the merged tree:

The spec picked the first visible book with an author and a publisher already in the database. Which titles survive the specs that run before it depends on the CI shard, and shard 2 of the 0.8.9 release run had none, so beforeAll failed. The spec now inserts its own author, publisher, genres and book and deletes them afterwards; the HEX snapshot and restore of shared rows is no longer needed.

Reviewed changes
This run covers a7c1d2b, the only commit since the prior review. It touches only tests/seo-audit.spec.js.
- Self-owned SEO fixtures:
beforeAllno longer borrows the first visible book, author and publisher, so the HEX snapshot andUNHEXrestore are gone. It now inserts its ownautori, editoriand parent and childgeneri. It also inserts alibrirow in the child genre withlingua='italiano, inglese', linked throughlibri_autoriasprincipale. This works because inschema.sqlonlytitoloandnomeareNOT NULLwithout a default, statoacceptsdisponibile, and the desiderata plugin'sis_desideratadefaults to 0, so the book appears in the archives and the sitemap. - Cleanup order:
afterAlldeletes in this order:libri_autori,libri,autori,editori, then the genres, child first. A fixture book has no rows inprestitiorprenotazioni, which referencelibriwith no cascade, so nothing blocks the delete. The publisher archive selects onlibri.editore_id, which the fixture sets, so theOrganizationassertions still have a book to find. - Dropped cache warm-up: the pre-write
GET /libro/{id}was only there to beat a stale cached page of a shared book. A freshly created ID has no cached page, andinvalidateBookCache()still runs after the inserts.
node --check passes on the spec. I did not run it, because there is no MySQL or app server in this environment.

The pickup window starts on the loan's first day and never runs past its end, so a loan shorter than the pickup setting has fewer days. The emails already said so; the popup after a request and the alert after a request without JavaScript still promised the full setting next to a deadline earlier than that. Both now count the days up to the effective deadline.

✅ No new issues found.
Reviewed changes
This run covers a537640, the only commit since the prior review. It follows up CodeRabbit's note on book-detail.php.
- Popup pickup days: the scheduled-loan footnote now takes its number from the capped
pickupDeadline, not from the rawpickupExpiryDayssetting. A loan that ends before the pickup window closes now shows the shorter count, which is the samemin(setting, deadline − start)rule thatNotificationService::effectivePickupDays()uses for{{giorni_ritiro}}. - Non-JS alert pickup days:
bookDetail()reads theloan_idthatUserActionsControlleralready adds to the redirect, and looks the loan up byid, the session user andlibro_id. A reader therefore can only see their own loan, and anything that fails or doesn't match falls back to the setting. The view prefers the new$scheduledPickupDays. - E2E coverage:
tests/loan-calendar-width.spec.jssetspickup_expiry_daysto 7 and checks that a two-day loan says "2" in the popup (with a mocked POST) and in the alert (with an insertedprenotatorow). Afterwards it restores the setting and deletes the row.
php -l is clean on both PHP files, and node --check passes on the spec. I did not run the E2E tests, because there is no MySQL or app server in this environment.

A loan_id like "42abc" was cast to 42. The id must now be a plain positive integer, otherwise the alert falls back to the configured pickup days. The popup test also closes the success dialog it checks.

Reviewed changes
This run covers 2220a7f, the only commit since the prior review. It follows up CodeRabbit's two notes on a537640.
- Strict
loan_idparsing:bookDetail()now usesloan_idonly when it is a string that matches/^[1-9][0-9]{0,9}$/. Partial input like42abc, as well as0, leading zeros and array parameters, now falls back to thepickup_expiry_dayssetting instead of being cast to a number. The lookup is still limited to the session user and the book, so the stricter parse only narrows which inputs are accepted. - E2E follow-ups: the popup test closes the SweetAlert success dialog and checks that it is hidden. The no-JS alert test adds a
loan_id=${loanId}abccase and expects the text for the 7-day setting.
php -l is clean on FrontendController.php and node --check passes on the spec. I checked the regex against sample inputs in PHP: 42 matches, while 42abc, 0, 01, 42 and an 11-digit value don't. I did not run the E2E tests, because there is no MySQL or app server in this environment.
