Printable patron cards, webcam photo and CSV user import.

  • Cards: TCPDF, CR80 single card or A4 sheet (10, or 9 in portrait), front with logo, library name, reader name, card code as Code128 or QR, photo, expiry; back text from settings, mirrored on A4 for duplex. New "Tessere" settings tab copied from the labels tab, three layouts. Print from the reader page or in bulk from a new selection column in the users list. With nothing configured you get a classic Code128 card.
  • Photo: "Scatta foto" (getUserMedia → canvas) and "Carica foto" in the edit form. The server re-encodes to JPEG ≤ 600 px without EXIF, stores it in storage/patron_photos/ outside the web root and serves it only through an admin route. Delete photo removes file and reference; deleting an account deletes the photo. Permissions-Policy keeps camera=(self) and nothing else; the CSP is unchanged.
  • User import /admin/users/import: upload, preview, column mapping (headers recognised in all five languages, custom registration fields as targets), chunks of 10, duplicates by email or card code skipped (DB or earlier in the file), passwords never imported, optional invitation through PasswordSetupToken, import history (type users) and error download. Patron type by code is isolated in PatronTypeImport and becomes active once the patron types schema exists (later PR in the stack).

Tests: unit 57 + migration section 8 (+ real Updater run); E2E patron-cards 6, patron-photo 6 (Chromium fake camera), user-import 6 (20 rows → 17 created, 2 duplicates, 1 bad row, invitations checked in Mailpit); user management regressions green. PHPStan 0.

Summary by CodeRabbit

The remaining issues are localized: failed account deletion can remove a photo, large card selections can omit cards, and interrupted imports can lose completion details or misreport history. These warrant fixes or explicit follow-up, but the evidence does not establish a broad production blocker.

ℹ️ No critical issues. Three rough edges in the user import are worth a look.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed the whole PR: printable library cards, the patron photo and the CSV user import. That covers the controllers, the support classes, the views, the migration section, the locales and the tests.

  • Library cards: PatronCardPdf renders a CR80 single card or an A4 sheet (10 cards, or 9 portrait), with the back sheet mirrored for duplex printing. Settings live in PatronCardSettings (cards category) behind the new Tessere tab. Single and bulk PDF routes check users.manage and then read access to each record.
  • Patron photo: PatronPhoto re-encodes uploads with GD to a JPEG of at most 600 px and stores them in storage/patron_photos/. The stored name must match a strict pattern before it resolves, and the photo is served only through /admin/users/{id}/photo. Uploading or deleting follows UserRoleAssignment::canEdit, the same check as UsersController::editForm/update. Deleting an account also deletes the photo.
  • User import: upload → mapping → chunks of 10 in UserImportController, with the pure logic in UserImport. Duplicates are found by email or card code, both in the DB and earlier in the file. Passwords are never imported, invitations are optional, and each run is logged as import_logs type users.
  • Migration: the import_type enum gains users, computed from the current COLUMN_TYPE, so marc is kept. schema.sql matches.
  • Users list: adds a selection column for bulk card printing. The UtentiApiController sort map moves by one to match, and no other consumer of those column indexes exists.

I checked these locally: scripts/ci-check-locales.py passes, php -l is clean on the changed PHP files, and the pure part of tests/patron-cards-import.unit.php passes (43 checks). The DB-backed part needs MySQL and did not run here.

✅ No new issues found. d480ee2d addresses all three points from the previous review.

Reviewed changes

The branch was rebased onto the new base. A git range-diff shows the six commits reviewed before are unchanged apart from one blank line in CHANGELOG.md, so this review covers only the new commit d480ee2d.

  • Cleaned up abandoned CSV copies: page() now deletes the file of a preview that was never started. Both page() and upload() call UserImport::sweepStaleUploads(), which deletes user_import_*.csv files untouched for an hour. chunk() touches the file it is using, so a running import is never swept. If a preview sits for more than an hour before it is started, start() fails cleanly through its is_file check.
  • Turned post-insert failures into warnings: custom fields, patron type and invitation now run in completeImportedUser(). Each step has its own try, so once a user is inserted the row counts only as created and never also as failed.
  • Served user-import errors under users.manage: the new route /admin/users/import/errors uses ImportHistoryController::downloadErrors() with a required type of users, and returns 404 for any other import. The own-import check is kept. The history link is shown only to roles with catalog.manage.

I checked these locally: scripts/ci-check-locales.py passes, php -l is clean on the changed PHP files, and the two new strings are in all five locales.

✅ No new issues found. The new commit only changes the E2E tests. Application code is the same as in the version approved earlier.

Reviewed changes

This review covers 93f7848, which sits on top of 39ecab1 with no rebase.

  • Added tests/helpers/server-files.js: helpers to check, read, list, write and remove files owned by the PHP user. Each one tries plain fs first. If that fails with EACCES/EPERM, it falls back to sudo -n. This way the specs work when the server runs as www-data and the files keep production permissions (0750 folders, 0640 files).
  • Switched patron-photo.spec.js and user-import.spec.js to the helpers: they now use the helpers for the photo-file checks, the JPEG magic-byte check, cleanup, and the stale-upload sweep test. In that test the two-hour-old mtime is now set through sudo touch -d. The assertions themselves are unchanged.

ℹ️ No critical issues. There is one minor suggestion inline about memory use when a photo is rotated.

Reviewed changes

This review covers the two commits added on top of b17224d. They respond to the CodeRabbit review.

  • Capped decoded photo size: PatronPhoto::normalise() now refuses any image above MAX_PIXELS (16 MP) before GD decodes it. A new unit check covers a small, highly compressed 4001×4001 PNG.
  • Applied the EXIF orientation: JPEGs with Orientation 3, 6 or 8 are turned with imagerotate before resizing, using the correct counter‑clockwise angles. Mirrored orientations are left as they are. The new unit check builds an EXIF APP1 segment by hand and asserts that the stored photo comes out portrait.
  • Replaced HtmlHelper::e(): settings/cards-tab.php and utenti/import.php now use plain htmlspecialchars(..., ENT_QUOTES, 'UTF-8'), and the unused imports are gone.
  • Fixed the Danish wording: "Duplicati saltati" is now "Oversprungne dubletter".
  • Restored card settings exactly in E2E: patron-cards.spec.js saves the settings with HEX() and restores them with UNHEX(), so newlines in card_back_text survive the mysql -B round trip.

I checked these locally: php -l is clean on the changed PHP files, scripts/ci-check-locales.py passes, and neither view uses HtmlHelper any more.

Comment thread app/Support/PatronPhoto.php Resolved
Library cards: a TCPDF PDF in CR80 size or on A4 sheets of 10 (9 for the
portrait layout), with logo, name, card code as Code128 or QR, photo and
expiry, and an optional back text mirrored for duplex printing. Settings
live in a new "Tessere" tab (/admin/settings/cards). A card prints from
the reader's page; the users list gets a selection column to print many.

Patron photo: the user form takes it from the webcam (getUserMedia, canvas)
or from a file and sends both to one endpoint that re-encodes a bounded,
EXIF-free JPEG into storage/patron_photos, outside the web root, served
only through /admin/users/{id}/photo. Deleting the photo, or the account,
deletes the file. Permissions-Policy keeps camera=(self), now built in
ContentSecurityPolicy; nothing else is loosened.

User import: /admin/users/import uploads a CSV, previews it, maps the
columns (headers recognised in five languages, custom registration fields
included), then processes it in chunks. Duplicates by email or card code
are skipped, never merged; passwords are never imported and an optional
invitation uses PasswordSetupToken. Each run lands in the import history
as type "users". The patron-type column goes through PatronTypeImport,
which does nothing until the tipologie_lettore schema exists.
The MARC and user import sections both extend import_logs.import_type, so the fresh-install enum is csv, librarything, marc, users. Each section test now checks that its own value is in schema.sql after the 0.8.9 values instead of matching the enum it saw alone.
…s, errors under users.manage

The uploaded copy of the CSV (patrons' personal data) is deleted when the preview is abandoned ("Annulla" reloads the page) and any copy no import has touched for an hour is swept on the next visit or upload; a running import touches its copy on every chunk.

Once a row's account is inserted, a failure saving custom fields, assigning the patron type or issuing the invitation is a warning on a created row, not a failed one, so totals add up and a re-import does not duplicate the user.

The error report of a user import is served at /admin/users/import/errors (users.manage) and only for users imports; the import history link is shown only to roles that can open it.
storage/patron_photos and writable/uploads keep production permissions (0750 directories, 0640 files of the PHP user). In CI that user is www-data, not the Playwright runner, so the photo and user-import specs could not see the files they check. tests/helpers/server-files.js reads, lists, writes and removes them directly when possible and through passwordless sudo otherwise.
A small file declaring a huge image is refused before GD allocates it,
and a portrait phone photo is turned upright before the JPEG re-encode
drops its EXIF.

ℹ️ No critical issues. There is one rough edge in the new resume path, noted inline.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed the commits added since the last Pullfrog review at edff1b7 (8cc1f5c..35850c4 plus the base merges).

  • Mapping keys: UserImport::validateMapping() now refuses non-int keys such as "01" and "1x", so they can no longer alias another column.
  • Truncated error report: UserImportController::report() adds a single truncated entry past MAX_STORED_ERRORS. The page labels it "Report troncato".
  • Final-block replay: a finished run stores ['finished' => true, 'result' => $payload], and a retried chunk() returns that payload again. This addresses the prior thread.
  • Resume and cancel: there is a new active_at/IDLE_SECONDS liveness check. A live run makes upload() return 409 with its position, and a replayed start() does the same. The new POST /admin/users/import/cancel closes an abandoned run and logs it as partial (closeSessionImport()). The page shows a "Riprendi"/"Annulla" panel built from resumable().
  • Photo orphans: PatronPhoto::clearReference() only clears the reference it expects. sweepOrphans() removes a reader's unreferenced files older than ORPHAN_GRACE_SECONDS on every store and delete. A hard delete of a user is now refused when the photo file cannot be removed.
  • Tests: new unit checks read the Code128 bars and the QR data modules back out of the PDF streams. The new E2E tests cover mirrored backs on a multi-card sheet, a custom-role photo ACL and the hard delete of a reader without loans.

I checked: ci-check-locales.py passes, every locale JSON parses, and php -l is clean on the changed PHP files.

Replies to the follow-up findings listed in the body of the latest CodeRabbit review on this PR:

  • tests/patron-photo.spec.js 150-152, authenticated access to a reader outside the account's scope: Fixed in 35850c4. New E2E test in tests/patron-photo.spec.js: an account whose role has backend.access and users.manage gets 200 for the photo of a reader it may edit, and 403 for a reader that has a role (not executed).
  • tests/patron-photo.spec.js 239, hard delete of a reader with no loans: Fixed in 35850c4. New E2E test: deleting a reader with no loans removes the account and the photo file, and the photo route then returns 404 (not executed).
  • tests/patron-cards.spec.js 201-210, several double-sided cards: Fixed in 7c4acaa. New E2E test in tests/patron-cards.spec.js: a three-card sheet with a back must put each back in the mirrored column of its front's row (not executed; I checked the slot logic against a real PDF and poppler output locally).
  • tests/patron-cards.spec.js 221-231, Code128 and QR symbol check: Fixed in 5962b72. The unit test now reads the drawn shapes back from the PDF for all three layouts: the Code128 bars must match the encoder exactly, and the QR, with its mask removed, must carry the same data as an encoding of the code. TCPDF picks the QR mask at random, so a direct module-by-module comparison would be flaky.

An upload in another tab silently replaced a preview that had not started, and start/chunk never checked which preview a request came from, so a tab still showing file F2 could apply its mapping to the rows of F1. upload() now issues a random preview_id kept in the session state and returned to the page (and to the resume panel); start, every chunk and cancel send it. start and chunk answer a missing or different id with 409 stale and no position, so the page cannot "resume" a run that is not its own; cancel leaves the other upload's import alone. The finished-run replay is keyed to the same id. The page also hears uploads in other tabs over a BroadcastChannel and disables its Start/Resume with the existing MARC "preview replaced" message.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed the commit since the last review that ties every user import request to its preview.

  • Preview ids: upload() now creates a preview_id. start, chunk and cancel must send it back, and samePreview() (hash_equals; a missing id never matches) turns away a request from a replaced preview: start and chunk answer 409 stale with no position to resume from, and cancel leaves the import alone.
  • Resume and replay: resumable() now includes the id, so the resume panel can drive the run. The finished-run replay state also keeps the id, so a retried final block still gets the final answer.
  • Cross-tab signal: after an upload, the page broadcasts the new id on a BroadcastChannel. Other tabs call markStale(), which turns off Start/Resume. A server answer flagged stale stops the run without retrying.
  • Tests and locales: 7 new unit checks cover stale and missing ids on all three endpoints, plus the happy path. The new string is in all five locales (ci-check-locales.py passes, php -l clean).

The open thread on UserImportController.php:70 (resume offered after the staged file was swept) is still unaddressed. This commit doesn't touch that code.

…story

The sweep removes staged user import files untouched for an hour, while the admin session can live much longer. The page still offered "Riprendi import" for such a run, and resuming it reached the vanished-file branch of chunk(), which dropped the session state without logging: the accounts already created never reached the import history.

- page() now closes an interrupted run whose staged file is gone through closeSessionImport() (written to import_logs as far as it got) and shows a translated notice with a link to the import history, instead of offering a resume that could only fail.
- The vanished-file branch of chunk() closes the run the same way before clearing the session, and its message says the rows already processed are in the history.
- Visiting the page touches the staged file of the session's own interrupted run, so the sweep keeps it.
…hidden

When another tab uploads a file while this one shows the resume panel or the result step, markStale() now also puts the reason in the always-visible alert, so the disabled Resume button is not left without an explanation.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed 6543889, which closes an interrupted user import whose staged file has expired. The base merge e746445 adds nothing to this PR's own files apart from locale context lines.

  • Page visit keeps the staged file: page() now runs touchSessionFile() before sweepStaleUploads(), so returning to the page keeps the interrupted run's file.
  • Expired run closed on the page: closeVanishedImport() writes a started run whose file is gone into import_logs through closeSessionImport(). The page then shows the amber #user-import-expired notice instead of a resume panel that could only fail.
  • Vanished file in chunk(): the branch now calls closeSessionImport() before answering 409 with import_id, so the rows already processed reach the history. The answer has no processed field, so the page shows the error and does not retry.
  • Strings and tests: added two new strings in all five locales (ci-check-locales.py passes). Extended the unit test to cover the logged partial run, a run that stays resumable and the file surviving the sweep.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed ad28533, the one commit since the last review.

  • Stale notice outside the mapping step: markStale() now also calls showError(T.stale) when #user-import-step-mapping is hidden. This way a tab on the resume panel or the result step sees why Start/Resume stopped working, not only an amber notice in a hidden panel. On the start and chunk stale paths, the caller's own showError(err.message) still runs after it and shows the server's message.

I could not fetch or retire the prior review threads in this run because the GitHub API rate limit for the installation was exhausted. Their status is unchanged.

…never goes stale

The expired-import notice linked the import history unconditionally, but that page requires catalog.manage; it is now gated like the help-box link. Once a run's summary is shown, the page forgets its preview id, so an upload in another tab no longer paints a "preview replaced" alert above a finished import.
…ession

start() read send_invites with !empty(), so the string "false" turned invitations on; it is now parsed with FILTER_VALIDATE_BOOLEAN. The seen_emails/seen_codes sets grew by one entry per created account and were serialised with the session on every block, while exists() already finds a repeat in the table (rows of earlier blocks are inserted by then): the sets are gone and a repeated row is still reported as a duplicate.
…d as recorded

closeSessionImport() returns '' when finish() cannot write import_logs, and no caller looked at it. Now the vanished-file answer of a block uses its own message, "Annulla import" answers with a history_warning the page shows instead of reloading, an upload that replaced such a run carries the same warning apart from the conversion notice, and the expired-import notice on the page no longer says the run was recorded when its import_id is empty.
The photo was removed before DELETE FROM utenti, so a DELETE refused by a foreign key (a reservation still pointing to the reader) left the account without its photo. The DELETE now runs through DbAtomic and the file is removed before the commit: a refused DELETE leaves the photo and its reference, and a file that cannot be removed rolls the DELETE back as before. Orphaned files of earlier photos are swept once the account is gone.
bulkPdf silently dropped the selection past MAX_BULK (500), so an operator could get a PDF with fewer cards than selected. The users list now warns before opening the PDF when the selection is too large, and a request that still gets through is answered with 422 and the limit in the body.
file_put_contents() already returns false on a short write, but store() left whatever reached the disk for sweepOrphans() to find later. The write now goes through PatronPhoto::writeFile(), which checks the full length and removes the partial file at once; the lock is dropped because the name is new and random and nothing reads it before store() records it.
The mapping assertion now covers orientations 3, 6 and 8, and the pixel check that already ran for 5 and 7 runs for 6 and 8 too: a flipped rotation sign keeps the photo portrait but upside down, which the portrait-shape check alone could not see.
…file

Every chunk built a new league Reader and skipped 1 + start records, so each block parsed the file from the top and the total cost grew with the square of the row count. The session now keeps the byte offset of the next row, moved together with the position row by row; a block seeks there and reads its rows with fgetcsv() under the same controls as Csv::readerFromPath() (double-quote enclosure, no escape, blank lines skipped), so the records match the ones counted and previewed at upload. Only the first block, or a run started before the offset existed, skips by counting.
The sweep of uploaded CSVs after STALE_UPLOAD_SECONDS has one deliberate exception, the interrupted run of the session visiting the import page, which that page offers to resume. The constant's docblock now says so and bounds it: at most that long past the last visit of a live session, released at once by "Annulla import".
A cancel whose history entry failed hid the resume panel but left the upload step hidden too (it is rendered hidden while a run is resumable), so the page showed only the warning and no way to load a new file until a reload. The upload step is now shown under the warning.

Replies to the nitpick and outside-diff findings in the body of the latest CodeRabbit review on this PR:

  • Reduce the cost of user import chunking: every block re-reads the CSV from the top — Fixed in a52e44e. The session now keeps the byte offset of the next row, moved together with the position row by row; each block seeks there and reads its rows with fgetcsv() under the same controls as Csv::readerFromPath() (double-quote enclosure, no escape, blank lines skipped), so the records match those counted and previewed at upload. Only the first block, or a run started before the offset existed, skips by counting. A unit test overwrites the already imported bytes with junk lines after the first block and checks the second block still imports every remaining row once.
  • Remove the seen_emails and seen_codes session sets — Fixed in 2ee2651. The sets are gone; exists() already finds a repeat in the table because rows from earlier blocks are inserted by then. A unit test imports a file that repeats a row with the email in upper case and checks one account is created, one duplicate is reported and the session holds no such sets.
  • Add mapping checks for EXIF orientations 6 and 8 — Fixed in 01efbe5. The mapping assertion now covers orientations 3, 6 and 8, and the pixel check that ran for 5 and 7 now runs for 6 and 8 too, so a flipped rotation sign (portrait but upside down) fails the test.

ℹ️ No critical issues. One small dead end in the new cancel path is flagged inline.

Reviewed changes

I reviewed the 10 commits since ad28533. The merge 717bd0e adds only base locale strings to this PR's own files.

  • Import blocks resume at a byte offset: chunk() now reads with fgetcsv through a new nextRecord() and keeps state['offset'] (an ftell value) next to next row by row, so each block fseeks instead of re-reading the file from the top. I checked locally that nextRecord() returns the same records as Csv::readerFromPath() on blank lines, CRLF, quoted multi-line cells and "" escapes.
  • No per-row session sets: removed seen_emails and seen_codes. A repeat inside the file is now caught by exists() against the rows already inserted (LOWER(email) comparison). send_invites goes through FILTER_VALIDATE_BOOLEAN.
  • History-write failures surfaced: closeSessionImport() returns '' when finish() cannot log. upload() and cancel() then add history_warning, and the vanished-file chunk() answer and the expired notice use wording that no longer claims the run reached the history.
  • Hard delete in a transaction: UsersController::delete runs SELECT … FOR UPDATE, DELETE, then PatronPhoto::deleteFile() inside DbAtomic::run. An FK-refused DELETE keeps the photo, and an unlink failure rolls the row back.
  • Photo short write: PatronPhoto::writeFile() treats a short file_put_contents as a failure and unlinks the partial file (unit test uses a half-writing stream wrapper).
  • Bulk card cap: above MAX_BULK the server answers 422 instead of truncating, and the users list warns before it opens the tab.
  • Prior feedback: gated the expired-notice history link behind catalog.manage, and runImport() clears previewId once the run is done. Both prior threads were already resolved by the author.
  • Tests: added EXIF 6/8 direction checks, the FK-refused delete, byte-offset resume over overwritten bytes, upper-case email repeat and the history-warning paths. ci-check-locales.py passes and php -l is clean.

✅ No new issues found. The dead-end page after a failed cancel is fixed.

Reviewed changes

This run covered what changed since the review at 717bd0e: one fix commit and one merge of the base branch.

  • Upload form returns after an unlogged cancel: when "Abbandona" gets a history_warning, the handler now unhides #user-import-step-upload along with hiding the resume panel. #user-import-alert sits outside the step containers, so the warning stays visible above the form, and the server has already cleared the session, so a new upload goes through.
  • Merged base feat/minor-slims-features: the merge only touches base files (app/Services/StocktakeService.php, tests/stocktake-snapshot.unit.php). None of this PR's files changed.
