Canonical issue

Closes #2488.

Outcome

Extend weekly Python dependency updates to the previously untracked SDK and MCP YouTube server, with a 10-PR limit per location. The SDK uses pip; the MCP server uses uv for its pyproject.toml and uv.lock.

Scope

  • Included: One SDK pip entry and one MCP server uv entry; regression coverage for unique Python entries, weekly schedules, ecosystems, and PR limits.
  • Preserved: Root/backend tracking. The existing root entry already covers root pyproject.toml.
  • Explicitly excluded: Dependency versions, CI, and auto-merge policy changes.

Risk

  • Risk level: low.
  • Failure mode: Additional update PRs may surface existing dependency conflicts.
  • Rollback: Revert the added entries.

Verification

  • Focused tests — uv run --no-project --with pytest --with pyyaml python -m pytest -q -o addopts='' tests/unit/test_dependabot_automation_workflow.py: 6 passed at head 5bf7eade1867a87dd2a5a932f11f10253e000725.
  • Ruff lint on the focused test and git diff --check passed.
  • Current head 1f89b0b69a5bd35a5151dddded153920facc3fec on repaired main: 29 hosted checks passed, 12 skipped, 0 failed. The dependency-review job succeeded in code-only mode; this PR changes configuration and tests, no dependency inputs, so it submitted no snapshot and produced no dependency artifact.
  • The earlier 3-base/1-head snapshot artifact was superseded after refreshing onto repaired main. The current dependency-review job took the expected code-only path. This check validates the absence of changed dependency inputs; it does not prove that Dependabot has created future update PRs.
  • No open review threads at this head (0 threads in current GitHub readback).

Production evidence

Not applicable; dependency automation configuration only. A future Dependabot run is needed to verify update PR creation.

Agent handoff

  • One canonical issue is linked.
  • No competing PR implements the same issue.
  • Acceptance criteria are satisfied in config and focused tests.
  • Required hosted checks pass on the current head.
  • PR marked ready after the repaired main refresh and current hosted checks; it remains open and unmerged pending an exact-head merge decision and a future Dependabot run.

Security dependency evidence

Not applicable; no advisory-driven dependency changes.

Review status at head 8c4b9362: the new Dependabot entries and regression test are a reasonable draft scope, but this PR is still marked draft and the closing-keyword check fails. Please verify both directories have supported dependency manifests, resolve the issue-link check, and mark it ready for review.

I reviewed the configuration and focused tests at head 5bf7eade1867a87dd2a5a932f11f10253e000725. The linked issue’s corrected requirement is met: the SDK has one weekly pip entry, the MCP YouTube server has one weekly uv entry for its pyproject.toml/uv.lock, both have a 10-PR limit, and the existing root/backend entries remain. All three target manifests are present. The six focused tests, Ruff, and current hosted checks pass; there are no open review threads. I approve this code change.

Keep the PR in draft for now. Its green dependency-review job reported a 3-base/1-head snapshot warning and 56 unrelated removals on this configuration-only diff, so that artifact is not reliable dependency evidence. It should not be merged until the shared comparison is repaired, an exact-head merge decision is made, and a subsequent Dependabot run confirms the new schedules produce the intended updates.

I reviewed the current head 1f89b0b69a5bd35a5151dddded153920facc3fec after the repaired main refresh. The diff adds one weekly pip entry for /sdk/python and one weekly uv entry for the MCP YouTube server, each with a 10-PR limit; existing root/backend entries remain. The focused configuration tests previously passed, and current hosted checks are 29 successful, 12 skipped, with no failures. The dependency-review job correctly used code-only mode because this PR changes no dependency inputs, and there are no open review threads. I approve this configuration change.

The PR remains open and unmerged. A future Dependabot run is still needed to observe actual update PR creation; this approval does not establish that production behavior.
