Jira: XRAY-158874

What changed

  • Audit exclusions are compared to the project folder and to paths inside it, so a parent directory outside the project no longer drops the scan

Heads-up

  • A project folder whose own name matches an exclusion is still skipped
  • A path that cannot be compared stays included and a warning is logged

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed exclusion matching during audits and scans. Exclusion patterns are now evaluated relative to the scan target, so a matching ancestor directory no longer incorrectly prevents a nested project from being selected.
    • Scan targets that match an exclusion pattern continue to be skipped.

📝 Walkthrough

Exclusion checks now evaluate paths relative to a scan root. Audit target detection, scanner selection, and PEP 723 script detection use the root-aware check, with tests for paths beneath matching ancestors.

Changes: Root-relative exclusion matching

Layer / File(s) Summary
Derive exclusion match paths
utils/paths.go, utils/paths_test.go
Added IsPathExcludedFromRoot and its match-path logic. Tests cover relative paths, base-name matching, empty exclusions, and comparison failures that log a warning.
Apply matching in audit target detection
commands/audit/audit.go, commands/audit/audit_test.go
Audit target detection checks include paths, the root, and requested directories relative to their roots. Tests cover project targets beneath an ancestor matching an exclusion pattern in both audit flows.
Apply matching in scanner and script checks
jas/common.go, jas/common_test.go, utils/techutils/techutils.go, utils/techutils/techutils_test.go
Scanner selection and PEP 723 script detection use root-aware exclusion checks. Tests cover scanner target paths and a script beneath a matching ancestor.

The change is mergeable with a targeted test follow-up: confirm that projects beneath excluded ancestors retain npm detection, not just a scan target.

Assert the detected technology in both exclusion tests.

Both tests assert only the target path. If package.json is excluded from descriptor detection, the existing fallback still produces the same project target, so both tests can pass without detecting techutils.Npm.

Suggested fix
 assert.Equal(t, resolvedProjectDir, cmdRes.Targets[0].Target)
+assert.Contains(t, cmdRes.Targets[0].Technologies, techutils.Npm)

Apply the assertion to both ancestor-exclusion tests.
