Throwaway PR to confirm Cursor Bugbot reviews PRs in this repo. bugbot_test.py contains deliberate bugs that Bugbot should flag: a mutable default argument, an off-by-one index and a bare except.

Close it without merging once Bugbot has commented.

PR Summary

Low Risk
Adds an isolated, non-merge test file with no wiring into the app; no runtime or security impact unless merged.

Overview
Adds a throwaway bugbot_test.py module (marked do not merge) to smoke-test that Cursor Bugbot reviews PRs in this repo.

The new helpers are intentionally buggy: add_tag uses a mutable default list, last_item indexes with len(items) (off-by-one), and read_config uses a bare except and reads files without a context manager. There is no production integration—only this probe file.

Mutable default argument shares state

Medium Severity

add_tag uses a mutable list as the default for tags, so one list is reused across calls. When callers omit tags, earlier tags leak into later results and independent invocations share state.

Off-by-one index always fails

High Severity

last_item indexes items at len(items), which is one past the last valid position. Every call raises IndexError instead of returning the final element.

Bare except swallows all errors

Medium Severity

read_config uses a bare except, which the Python review rules flag. That catch-all hides unexpected failures, including KeyboardInterrupt and SystemExit, so real errors and shutdown signals are swallowed and the caller only sees None.
