When the Query Tool re-creates its transaction (after a password prompt or missing master password key during a query, or on the connect-with-password and Kerberos retries), the initialise request sent no execute options, so the server reset auto commit, auto rollback and server cursor to the preferences whilst the toolbar kept showing the user's choices. Changing the connection carried auto commit and auto rollback over, but not server cursor.

  • MainToolBar keeps a toolbarOptionsRef (on the Query Tool context) up to date with its check menu options, and initializeQueryTool sends the boolean execute options from it in the initialise request (Query Tool only, not View/Edit Data).
  • initialize_sqleditor passes those options through to _init_sqleditor, which still falls back to the preferences for any that are missing or not booleans.
  • update_sqleditor_connection now carries server_cursor over too.

toolbarOptionsRef uses the same name and wiring as #10593, so whichever lands second needs a small, mechanical rebase.

Test plan

  • New tools.sqleditor.tests.test_execute_options_reinit (5 scenarios: all, some, none and non-boolean options on initialise, plus options kept across a connection change); 3 of them fail without the backend change.
  • test_server_cursor, test_autocomplete_after_connection_change and test_transaction_status still pass.
  • New Jest spec regression/javascript/sqleditor/QueryToolInitialise.spec.js checks the initialise request body.
  • pycodestyle and eslint clean on the changed files.

Closes #10598

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes

    • Query Tool execution settings now persist when the tool is reinitialized or its connection changes. Boolean settings are applied as provided; omitted or invalid values use saved preferences.
    • View/Edit Data requests retain their existing initialization behavior.
  • Tests

    • Added coverage for execution settings, preference defaults, and connection changes.

Walkthrough

The Query Tool sends boolean toolbar execution options during initialization. Server-side transaction initialization uses those values or preference defaults when values are absent or not boolean. Connection changes carry boolean option values to the replacement transaction.

🟡 Minor · Publish the new toolbar values before recovery can reinitialize… · QueryToolComponent.jsx:123-131

web/pgadmin/tools/sqleditor/static/js/components/QueryToolComponent.jsx:123-131
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Publish the new toolbar values before recovery can reinitialize the transaction.

checkMenuClick starts changeQueryExecutionSettings before toolbarOptionsRef.current is updated by the passive effect. If the request reports DATAGRID_TRANSACTION_REQUIRED, recovery calls initConnection and then initializeQueryTool(). That initialization reads the ref. The replacement request can therefore use the previous boolean values while the toolbar shows the new values.

Update toolbarOptionsRef.current with the computed state before starting the execution-settings request.

Re-initialising the Query Tool after a password prompt, a missing master
password key or a Kerberos ticket refresh sent no execute options, so the
server reset auto commit, auto rollback and server cursor to the
preferences whilst the toolbar still showed the user's choices. The
initialise request now sends the current toolbar values, falling back to
the preferences when they are absent, and changing the connection now
carries server cursor over as well as auto commit and auto rollback.

The update_connection path copied whatever value the toolbar endpoints had
stored on the transaction, whereas initialize_sqleditor() only accepts
booleans. Apply the same check so anything else falls back to the
preferences.

🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Wait for restored toolbar options before initializing the transaction.

When params.restore === true, getSQLScript() starts restoreToolContent() without waiting for it. The effect then calls initializeQueryTool() immediately. The new request helper can therefore send preference-seeded booleans from toolbarOptionsRef before the saved toolbar options are restored. The server treats those booleans as explicit transaction settings, so automatic re-execution may use the wrong auto-commit, auto-rollback, or server-cursor behavior.

Gate initialization on restore completion and update toolbarOptionsRef.current from the saved options before firing the restore event. This sequencing fix belongs in QueryToolComponent; changing the request projection alone cannot distinguish pending restoration from current user choices.
