A quick README:
This app was made using a.i. and it was only tested in windows 10, and according to the a.i. it should work in windows 11.
It worked perfectly for me and my purposes on the latest (and last) version of windows 10 22H2 with no errors. I tested all functions and created every type of Storage Space and never had an issue.
Use this app at your own risk, I am not responsible for any data loss.
There will only be this version(s) of the app, I will not create anything further, but I welcome anyone to use the code and make their own, or alter the app in any way they see fit, it would be nice to get a mention somewhere in there though ;)
What's included:
I have included the original PS1 file and also two executable versions of the app.
What each EXE does:
The one that has the "manual mode" naming relies on an open PowerShell windows running in admin mode. This version allow you to copy and paste every command manually into the PowerShell terminal to easily see what commands are being used, and errors that may happen so it is clear what is happening.
The more user friendly version does not need any PowerShell window and everything operates behind the scenes and runs clean, though, you will not get any error output. This version is intended for advanced users, but a newbie could use it too, just don't expect support if you have any issues.
Why I made this:
The reason why I made this app is because some people like myself use Storage Spaces as a free alternative to hardware or software RAID on the market, but it was very unfortunate that Microsoft decided the completely nerf any advanced Storage Spaces settings for the end user. Their basic stripped down gui that ships with windows is nothing like the one they have in their Windows Server OS.
One must use a complicated set of commands in PowerShell to achieve what should have been an easy and quick process to make an easily OPTIMIZED Windows Storage Space. I was like many and did not know the proper and correct optimized settings for any and all Storage Space configurations, making the implementation slow and wasteful for storage space depending on a user's setup and needs.
And before you wonder why I just didn't use some other free and/or better alternative for my RAID, I know of them, I did not want to learn a whole new system just for a library of movies and simple personal files, I'm not running a hardcore commercial business with insane RAID needs. This is just a simple project I had fun making for my simple needs, which was completely 100% free to do and to learn from.
I only wish Microsoft simply shipped the fully usable gui version from their Windows Server OS, but at least this way, I did learn what the optimal settings are for all RAID configs, and I could make it easy for myself and others by simply clicking the "Quick Optimize" button on any Storage Spaces/RAID setup they are building and the app will instantly give the best settings for the number of drives and RAID type that may be selected.

I hope that the app serves you well, and I'm sorry if it doesn't work in Windows 11 for some reason, I would use the manual mode version first to see if it will work for you, then you can turn to the standard version if all goes well. If this app works for you and you like it, go ahead, copy it, share it, re-code it, I don't care. I know RAID is niche nowadays, but it is still useful for those that have large libraries and spent a lot of time and money over the years putting it together, I hope that this utility can help speed up the process for some, and take out the guess work when making a Storage Space for Windows for everyone.
