Preserve explicit global and per-arm exposure settings through readout; apply charge binning before read noise and software binning afterward. Retain repeatable independent realizations and truthful exposure/header output, including MOSAIC conversion.

Part 05/29 of the Caltech review series. Review the diff against review/xs-02-upstream-baseline; the final destination is main.

Merge after series 02: scopesim.

Review focus: scopesim/detector; scopesim/effects/electronic; scopesim/optics/optical_train.py.

Validation: 93 targeted readout, arm-configuration, binning, noise-table, exposure and MOSAIC checks passed.

Source commits/snapshots: 2a68fbc0, 0ac61b83, ef55346d, b3c91073, c4f0ec17, 307faba5, 2780412e, 1f528b4a, 7e30187e.

Use a merge commit to preserve the stack ancestry and pinned commits. After this merges, retarget the next PR in this repository to its default branch. Do not squash/rebase an earlier stack entry without rebuilding its descendants and dependency pins.
