The CVE fix is available as upstream 1.2.1, 1.1.1 and 1.0.10. Distributions and vendors also backport the fix without changing the reported version. For example, a Node security release cherry-picked the fix and kept the version string at 1.1.0.

Reviewed and measured on Linux (WSL, clang 18) against compiler main (0b2d50e) and brotli 1.1.1 built from source.
The PR's own checks reproduce: ZLIB_STREAMS_PARITY_OK:63, NATIVE_BROTLI_OK:8, NATIVE_ZLIB_OK:57. The CVE-2026-111497 gate matches the brotli 1.2.1 / 1.1.1 / 1.0.10 release notes.
Blocking: one write decompresses in full, so a body-size limit cannot stop a decompression bomb
inflateInto and brotli streamWrite expand each written chunk completely into one vector before _transform pushes anything. A consumer that enforces a limit on the decoded size only sees the output after the whole expansion is already in memory. raw-body, which body-parser uses for Content-Encoding: gzip/deflate/br, is one such consumer. Node emits output in 16 KiB pieces, so the consumer's destroy() stops it after the first megabyte.
The probe: a 1 GiB-of-zeros payload written to the decoder in 64 KiB chunks. The 'data' handler calls stream.destroy() once 1 MiB has been received, which is what raw-body's limit does.
| decoder | input | Node 24: received / largest chunk / peak RSS | this PR |
|---|---|---|---|
| brotli | 1,681 bytes | 1,064,960 / 16,384 / 71 MB | 1,073,741,824 / 1,073,741,824 / 1.03 GB |
| gunzip (256 MiB of zeros) | 260,934 bytes | 1,064,960 / 16,384 / 80 MB | 67,415,144 / 67,415,144 / 137 MB (first 64 KiB write alone) |
For brotli, a 1.7 KB request body allocates 1 GiB, and a slightly larger body runs the process out of memory. Because body-parser decodes these encodings by default, any Nest endpoint that accepts JSON can be hit this way.
Suggested fix: cap the output of each native call at Node's chunkSize (16 KiB) and leave the unread input inside the codec state (z.avail_in / brotli's next_in). Then _transform loops push(piece) until the codec reports it needs input, and stops if this.destroyed. This also removes the "one chunk per write" difference listed in the description. A maxOutputLength check like Node's would be a cheaper backstop, but it doesn't fix the chunking on its own.
Nit
The brotli prefix lookup in scripts/test-native-brotli.mjs duplicates brotliPrefix() in build.mjs, and the two already differ: only the test looks under VCPKG_ROOT/installed/x64-windows-static. Importing the build's helper would keep them in step.
…uild.mjs when a unit includes it gea_node_brotli.hpp decodes whole buffers and, through a handle table over BrotliDecoderState, streams (open/write/finish/close); plugin/index.mjs lists the intrinsics. build.mjs links -lbrotlidec -lbrotlicommon only when a unit includes gea_node_brotli.hpp, finding the library through BROTLI_DIR, Homebrew, vcpkg or the system, and names the package to install when it is missing. The build also refuses a libbrotlidec affected by CVE-2026-111497 (decoder out-of-bounds write, fixed upstream in brotli 1.2.1, 1.1.1 and 1.0.10): it compiles and runs a BrotliDecoderVersion() check against the library it is about to link and stops with an upgrade hint below the fixed release of that line.
…ate, DeflateRaw) and brotliDecompress with their facades and compatibility rows The stream classes are Transforms over native zlib and brotli stream handles: _transform pushes the output of each chunk as it arrives, _flush finishes the stream, and every exit path releases the handle. stream.ts follows Node where these streams depend on it: - Writable and Duplex convert string chunks to Buffers (decodeStrings, default true, off in object mode). - autoDestroy (default true): a Writable is destroyed after 'finish', a Readable after 'end', a Duplex once both have happened, so 'close' fires. - An error from _write, _final or a write after end destroys the stream (emits 'error' then 'close'); with autoDestroy false it only emits 'error'. - write() and end() after destroy call back with ERR_STREAM_DESTROYED. http.IncomingMessage._destroy tears down the connection only when the request did not complete, as Node does, so the autoDestroy that follows a read body no longer closes the connection before the response is written. scripts/test-zlib-streams.mjs compares a compiled probe with Node: each decoder over split input, truncated and corrupt input, round trips, output before end, 'close' after success and after errors, and string writes.
…ing, as Node does A decoder whose stream has ended with input left over pushes null, so 'end' fires before end() as in Node. Gunzip stops at a zero byte after a member on both the stream and the one-shot path instead of reading it as the next header.
inflate, deflate, brotli decompress and the stream writes hand their bytes back through bufferResult, so gzipSync, gunzipSync, deflateSync, inflateSync, brotliDecompressSync, the callback forms and stream chunks are what Buffer.isBuffer accepts, as in Node.
…troyed A write was expanded in full before anything was pushed, so a consumer enforcing a decoded-size limit (raw-body, under body-parser) saw the output only after the whole expansion was in memory: 1,681 bytes of brotli became one 1 GiB chunk. Each native read now yields at most 16 KiB and keeps the unread input and pending output in the codec; _transform and _flush push piece by piece until the codec needs input and stop when the stream is destroyed, so a 'data' handler's destroy() ends decoding after its limit, as in Node.
…rotli test test-native-brotli.mjs repeated brotliPrefix() and, on Windows, accepted a vcpkg triplet directory without the lib/ check build.mjs makes. Both now import windowsLibraries() and brotliPrefix() from scripts/native-libraries.mjs.

Re #5 (review) Thanks. Both addressed in dfcbcc1, on top of the rebased stack. Decompression bomb. Taken the sync chunked route you suggested (8913772): each native read yields at most 16 KiB and keeps the unread input and pending output in the codec, and
Both now match Node's 1048576 / 16384. The probe gained the two bomb rows ( This exposed a lifecycle bug underneath, fixed in #11 (c374ef6): Remaining gap, listed in the description: a paused consumer does not throttle decoding, so a written chunk is decoded in full into the readable buffer. raw-body's limit path destroys and is covered. Re-measured dfcbcc1 on Linux (WSL, clang 18, compiler main 0b2d50e, brotli 1.1.1). Thanks, the chunked route works.
- Same bomb probes as before: brotli (1,681 B → 1 GiB) and gunzip (256 MiB of zeros) both stop at 1,064,960 received with 16,384-byte chunks, matching Node 24. Peak RSS is 9 MB and 7 MB, down from 1.03 GB and 137 MB; Node peaks at 71 MB and 80 MB.
- Throughput on a normal 17.4 MB JSON-like payload streamed in 64 KiB writes: gunzip goes from 18–20 ms to 21–22 ms (the cost of 16 KiB pieces, and still about twice as fast as Node's 40 ms). gzip is unchanged at 190–194 ms.
ZLIB_STREAMS_PARITY_OK:65,NATIVE_BROTLI_OK:8,NATIVE_ZLIB_OK:57andSTREAM_LIFECYCLE_PARITY_OK:27all reproduce.- c374ef6 (
_finalheld while a write is in flight) reads correct to me, given that uncorked writes are not queued.
A follow-up, not a blocker: a paused consumer still doesn't throttle decoding, as the description notes. raw-body destroys at its limit, so body-parser isn't affected, but a decompressor piped into a slow writer will buffer the whole expansion. Worth an issue.
node:zlibgains the stream classes andbrotliDecompress; the brotli decoder is a libbrotlidec intrinsic thatscripts/build.mjslinks only when a unit includes it. Decoding is synchronous inside_transformand pushes output in 16 KiB pieces, stopping once the stream is destroyed.Verification:
