Update WhatsApp pricing to Meta's October 2026 rules - #416
Conversation
Meta now charges service messages per message, with 1,000 free delivered service messages per month for each phone number, and charges utility replies sent inside the customer service window. The free entry point lasts up to 7 days and applies to Click-to-WhatsApp ads. Correct the Meta fees guide, the Connect WhatsApp FAQ (which still described 72-hour conversations and the old sending limits) and the WhatsApp fundamentals pricing note in both languages, and record the change as linked errata with the original bodies. | Meta applies its current pricing rules to **delivered** messages, not merely sent messages. When a message is billable, its rate depends on the recipient market and its category: marketing, utility, authentication, or service. Meta calculates these charges and collects payment directly using the billing arrangement configured for your WhatsApp Business Platform account. | ||

| Under Meta's current rules, service messages and utility messages sent in response to users within the 24-hour customer service window opened or reset by their latest message have no charge. For eligible entry points from an ad that opens WhatsApp or a Facebook Page call-to-action, replying to the customer's message within 24 hours opens a 72-hour window with no message charges, counted from your business's reply. Utility and authentication messages may qualify for volume discounts. Check the exact terms for your case: using WhatsApp does not mean every message incurs a Meta fee. | ||
| Since October 1, 2026, Meta also charges service messages per message: non-template replies sent within the 24-hour customer service window opened or reset by the user's latest message. Each business phone number has a free tier of 1,000 delivered service messages per month, which applies only to service messages; unused messages don't roll over to the next month. From the same date, utility templates sent in response to users within that window are also charged. If the account has no payment method with Meta, Meta delivers service messages within the free tier and stops delivering them once it is used up. |

Correct the service-message billing claims against Meta's published rules
For customers estimating support-message costs, this introduces charges and a delivery cutoff that contradict the official pricing page linked by this article. Meta's current public pricing page explicitly says service messages and utility messages sent in response to users are not charged, and describes service replies within the 24-hour window as free. Restore those exemptions unless an authoritative October 2026 announcement can substantiate the change, and correct the corresponding Spanish text and pricing summaries in the other two article pairs; otherwise customers are told that free replies become billable or stop after 1,000 messages.

| When someone messages you from an ad that opens WhatsApp, using the WhatsApp app for Android or iOS, and your business replies within the customer service window, that reply is not charged and opens a free entry point window of up to 7 days, counted from the reply. Retain the published 72-hour free-entry-point terms
For businesses planning follow-ups after an advertising referral, the new seven-day exemption can cause them to underestimate billable messages after the first 72 hours. Meta's public pricing page still specifies three days (72 hours) and explicitly includes Facebook Page call-to-action buttons alongside ads that click to WhatsApp. Verify an authoritative replacement policy before extending the exemption and removing the Page entry point, and apply the correction to the Spanish paragraph as well.
