Description

This successor fixes downstream wheel installation identity and binds admission to the exact producer certificate identity on dev. Installation uses retained authenticated bytes through scoped private materialization. The producer certificate assertion replaces GitHub CLI's mutually exclusive signer options. Ambient uv configuration and Windows owner checks retain their reviewed corrections.

Refs #772. This PR prepares the downstream candidate; issue closure and production adoption remain gated. Planning #770 and modules #517 remain planning-only.

Contract references. The stdlib admission and materialization boundaries retain the explicit reviewed exceptions in REVIEW_EXCEPTIONS.md. assert_fixed_defaults uses genuine icontract.ensure and a functional AssertionError contract. Production pins, uv.lock, empty admissions, the frozen audit, coverage floor and provenance gates remain unchanged.

Type of Change

  • Bug fix.
  • Documentation update.
  • Contract enforcement.
  • Test enhancement.

Contract-First Testing Evidence

Signed test-only head 17e8f32c0f4393d0d8cae88c27ef7178b8fd0f2c produced all 89 intended hosted AssertionErrors before implementation restoration. The service artifact, source/tree/base, seven frozen inputs, mapping, plans and JUnit were independently authenticated in Requirements run 39332823706. The unchanged native binder passed. #778 closed unmerged only after this proof. Original receipts remain immutable history.

Contract Validation

  • Actual SpecFact findings reviewed against the existing explicit dispositions, including the separately approved materialize exception.
  • Real CrossHair checks passed the shared helper and rejected its deliberate bad-return mutant on installed versions 0.0.109 and 0.0.111.
  • A fresh complete contract run. Normal hooks reported unchanged-input SKIP; this is not a fresh pass.

Test Execution

  • All 183 focused local regressions passed with zero errors or skips.
  • The current signed head 4c02ed9872610031611b696e3c87a5430c1f8331 has authenticated 89-case hosted GREEN in Requirements run 39336445308.
  • The current hosted Python 3.12 full suite passed 3,640 tests, skipped 10 and emitted two warnings in 561.12 seconds. Coverage is 64.27% against the unchanged 50% floor. Exact job log.
  • All 21 current native platform/Python cells and aggregate job 118353694972 passed in native run 39336445037. The aggregate executed the unchanged validator on all service artifacts. Root independently authenticated Windows 3.12 and 3.13 privacy, child-reader and cleanup receipts.

Test Quality

Mapped tests exercise the real source and workflow assertions. Supplemental tests cover guard failures and private materialization. Native cells read actual candidate bytes and join child readers inside each materialization context. Candidate probes use explicit synthetic private authority and do not establish production admission. Frozen tests and the revised certificate assertion remain bound to the authenticated fresh RED proof.

How Has This Been Tested?

Normal hooks, strict OpenSpec, canonical type/Ruff checks and independent SAST against the unchanged baseline pass. Independent source and comment reviewers approved the published source. Actual CodeRabbit metadata covers 4c02ed9 with kind reviewed. Codex code review completed on current 4c02ed9 without findings. Its previous security review covers 98edafb; one fresh security request 6279217092 is pending. All review threads were resolved after publication.

Manual Testing

The real GitHub CLI rejected the old signer option pair. The corrected exact SAN selector was verified against the CLI contract. The documented design snippet executed successfully. Four real timezone runs disproved the frozen-date review claim.

Automated Testing

  • Relevant regression and mapped Requirements tests pass.
  • Current full suite passes.
  • Current native matrix passes.
  • Protected adoption remains required.

Test Environment

Local verification used macOS and prepared Python 3.12.13. Hosted full-suite verification used Ubuntu and Python 3.12. Native acceptance spans Linux, macOS and Windows on Python 3.11, 3.12 and 3.13; incomplete cells remain unchecked.

Checklist

  • Self-review and fresh independent source/comment review completed.
  • Existing approved contract exceptions and all raw findings retained.
  • OpenSpec and test evidence updated.
  • Canonical local type and lint gates pass.
  • Frozen test inputs and production dependency inputs preserved.
  • All dependent hosted, security and authority gates pass.

Quality Gates Status

  • Normal local hooks and strict OpenSpec.
  • Independent SAST and unchanged baseline gate.
  • Current hosted Requirements and Python 3.12 full suite.
  • Current complete native matrix and actual Codex code review.
  • Current Codex security review.
  • Frozen MCP Security Audit.
  • Exact-tree Trusted Requirements Authority and protected adoption.

The frozen audit and absent authority are separate blockers. Protected producer admission and production adoption remain unconfigured and incomplete. Predecessor native results grant no current-tree acceptance or authority. No merge is authorized.

Screenshots/Recordings

Not applicable. This change has no new visual interface.

nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

  • The companion’s native compatibility contract remains pinned to Semgrep 1.175.0 and MCP 1.29.0; its candidate policy is explicitly non-admitted and non-production. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] scripts/native_analyzer_inputs/README.md:7-11; scripts/native_analyzer_inputs/candidate-version-policy.json:14-27
  • Native runtime validation rejects Semgrep versions other than 1.175.0, and the native capsule hard-codes that version. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] scripts/macos_managed_boundary/python_analyzers.py:32-35,774-780; packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/run/native_capsule.py:58-60
  • The differential policy still requires Linux Semgrep 1.144.0 and Darwin Semgrep 1.175.0, so the new downstream 1.179.0 recipe must not be treated as changing native analyzer behavior. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/run/differential.py:1621-1628
  • The companion states that any future production integration of the 1.175.0 candidate must update producers, consumers, locks, and signed profiles and validate Linux/portable semantics. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] scripts/native_analyzer_inputs/README.md:147-153
  • No 1.179.0, 1.30.0, downstream-semgrep, Semgrep, or MCP references were found in the companion module manifest or registry index. The current code-review manifest remains version 0.51.2 with its existing checksum/signature metadata. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] packages/specfact-code-review/module-package.yaml:1-2,44-47

📝 Summary

Summary

Adds downstream Semgrep candidate building and evidence checks for Semgrep 1.179.0, plus a fail-closed boundary for protected artifact admission. Candidate validation does not grant production installation or audit authority. The producer workflow remains deliberately unconfigured and exits without signing, attestation, or publication.

The installer uses retained, authenticated wheel bytes through scoped private materialization. The implementation isolates child processes from ambient uv configuration. Windows OWNER RIGHTS observations are accepted only when they resolve to the same validated owner.

User-visible behavior and CLI surface

  • Adds scripts/verify_downstream_semgrep.py commands to generate the matrix and uv bootstrap requirements, run candidate cells, and aggregate their reports.
  • Adds a GitHub Actions workflow for pull requests that touch bound inputs and for manual dispatch. It runs native candidate cells, retains evidence on failure, and requires the complete matrix to pass.
  • A manual dispatch on dev reaches a producer job that fails until production bootstrap is configured.

Contract and API impact

  • Adds standard-library APIs in scripts/downstream_semgrep.py for candidate build and verification, matrix generation and aggregation, protected admission, scoped materialization, and audit-input/result validation.
  • Adds no CLI command to the SpecFact application and no Pydantic model or module-package change.
  • Adds OpenSpec change downstream-semgrep-admission, with requirements, design, evidence, and staged implementation and proof tasks.

Testing and quality gates

The PR description reports 183 relevant local regressions passing, normal hooks, strict OpenSpec checks, and SAST against the unchanged baseline. It reports an independently authenticated hosted 89-case RED run before implementation restoration. These are reported results, not a fresh verification in this summary.

The hosted current-head GREEN, all 21 native platform/Python cells, actual bot reviews, frozen MCP Security Audit, and trusted protected authority remain outstanding. Contract execution was an unchanged-input SKIP, not a fresh run. No hatch run contract-test result or coverage-floor result is supplied.

Release and adoption status

The recipe adds no production pin or lockfile change. The change does not modify module signing or version bumps. Production adoption and protected producer admission remain incomplete; no merge or automatic merge is authorized.

This change adds a pinned downstream Semgrep wheel recipe, deterministic candidate and protected-admission tooling, native platform verification, MCP regression probes, and a CI workflow. Candidate validation remains distinct from production admission. The manual producer job on dev exits with an error because production bootstrap is unconfigured.

Linked repositories findings

nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules

  • The companion’s native compatibility contract remains pinned to Semgrep 1.175.0 and MCP 1.29.0, explicitly separate from signed policy admission. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] scripts/native_analyzer_inputs/README.md:7-11
  • Its candidate policy marks these dependencies dependency_admitted: false, production_eligible: false, and proposal_only: true; Semgrep’s adapter and native plan are also versioned around 1.175.0. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] scripts/native_analyzer_inputs/candidate-version-policy.json:10-27; scripts/macos_managed_boundary/python_analyzers.py:32-37,774-780
  • The native capsule and differential policy still encode the separate Linux 1.144.0 / Darwin 1.175.0 boundary. The new downstream recipe’s Semgrep 1.179.0 should not implicitly alter this contract. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/run/native_capsule.py:54-59; packages/specfact-code-review/src/specfact_code_review/run/differential.py:1627-1628
  • The companion explicitly requires any eventual production integration to update all producers, consumers, locks, signed profiles, and Linux/portable validation. This PR’s stated candidate-only, non-production posture is consistent with that boundary. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] scripts/native_analyzer_inputs/README.md:149-153
  • No Semgrep/MCP references were found in the companion module-package.yaml manifests or registry metadata, so no bundled module version/signature update is indicated by this PR alone. [::nold-ai/specfact-cli-modules::] packages/*/module-package.yaml; registry/index.json
