This lets Home Assistant users of an Adam (and a non-legacy Anna) change the temperatures behind the presets of a zone, which they cannot do today. It picks up the request from #57 and the work in #59 and plugwise-beta#148, two PRs that were closed in 2021 without being merged.
This is the first half of #937, split off as requested. #937 keeps the weekly schedules and builds on this PR.
Changes
Each zone now reads its own preset rule (bug fix). _presets() read every preset rule on the gateway and the last one won, so every zone showed the same preset setpoints. It now reads the rule attached to the zone, and falls back to the old behaviour when a zone has no single rule of its own.
Each zone with its own preset rule gets preset temperatures: home_preset_temperature, asleep_preset_temperature, away_preset_temperature, vacation_preset_temperature and no_frost_preset_temperature, each an actuator with bounds 4-30 and resolution 0.5. set_number() writes them through set_preset_temperature().
Preset writes keep every attribute of each <when> and <then> in the rule, and escape the values. A preset rule with a <when> that has no <then> raises PlugwiseError, and nothing is written.
Gateway behaviour
Measured on my Adam, firmware 3.12.6:
A PUT to /core/rules;id=… that carries <directives> replaces the whole directive set. A PUT without <directives> keeps them. set_preset_temperature() therefore sends all five presets, with only the target heating setpoint changed.
Writing a preset rule re-applies the zone's active preset, so a manual setpoint on that zone is reset. The docstring of set_preset_temperature() says so, and the library does not restore the setpoint.
Tests
New tests for the per-zone presets, the preset temperatures and the write checks; coverage stays at 100%.
tests/data/*/*.json and fixtures/*/data.json are updated for the new keys and the per-zone preset order.
mypy, ruff, pylint and the other pre-commit hooks pass.
Open question
The preset temperatures cover heating only; the cooling setpoints are kept as they are. Is that acceptable as a first step?
Running in Home Assistant
A test Home Assistant (2026.10.2) runs this branch with the matching plugwise-beta branch, connected to my Adam. Each zone's device page now shows five preset temperature numbers under Configuration. The values stay in sync in both directions: a change in Home Assistant reaches the Adam, and a change in the Plugwise app shows up in Home Assistant at the next update.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Adjust heating setpoints for supported presets—such as Home, Away, and Sleep—individually for each zone. Available temperature ranges and adjustment steps are shown for each preset.
On gateways that support cooling, adjust preset cooling setpoints as well as heating setpoints.
Updating a preset resets that zone’s manual setpoint to match its active preset.
Bug Fixes
Adam zones now use their own preset settings instead of relying on settings from another zone or the gateway.
_presets() now reads only the preset rule attached to the zone, so each
zone on an Adam with several zones gets its own preset setpoints. When no
rule or several rules are attached to a zone, it reads all preset rules,
so gateways without per-zone rules keep their preset list.
set_number() sends all five presets on every write and changes only the
target heating setpoint. The gateway replaces a rule's whole directive
set on each write.
- set_preset_temperature() raises PlugwiseError when a preset rule has a
<when> without a <then>, and writes nothing.
- Preset writes keep every attribute of the rule and escape the values.

Walkthrough
This change adds per-zone preset temperature controls for Adam and Anna devices. It selects preset rules by location, exposes heating and supported cooling setpoints with bounds and resolution, and routes updates through the public number APIs to the selected zone’s preset rule.

Summary
Preset data and rule selection plugwise/constants.py, plugwise/helper.py, plugwise/data.py, fixtures/*/data.json, tests/data/{adam,anna}/*.json
The code selects preset rules by location and exposes available preset temperatures as climate data. Fixtures add preset values, bounds, and resolution for Adam and Anna devices.
The public set_number methods accept a setpoint selector. Preset updates validate the request, submit the complete directive set, and update matching in-memory XML. Tests cover validation, cooling-setpoint updates, escaping, and concurrent writes.

Tests update expected entity counts and check preset data and update behavior. The changelog records the per-zone controls and setpoint behavior.

A cooling preset can be sent with its heating temperature above its cooling temperature. Validate the two values together; the remaining risk is bounded and does not establish a broader failure.

On the Open Question, yes, please add updating of the cooling setpoints as well.
Have a look at the userdata subdirectories, any directory with "loria" in the name will have suitable data showing how the xml looks like with both cooling and heating.

Thanks @bouwew. The cooling setpoints are in now. set_number() takes a setpoint argument: setpoint_low (or the default setpoint) changes the heating setpoint of a preset, and setpoint_high changes the cooling setpoint. The preset data only has setpoint_high when the gateway has cooling. I used the loria fixtures for the tests, as you suggested. plugwise-beta has the matching cooling numbers.
I have not been able to actually test the cooling feature on a live system as my boiler does not support it.
