Reservations follow the closures calendar on expiry, promotion and admin edits - #527
Reservations now read the closures calendar in the places that still used the stored dates:
Queue expiry. A pickup deadline that falls on a closed day gives the reader the whole first open day after it, and nothing expires on a closed day. The maintenance sweep, the integrity audit and the integrity repair all use the same rule (LibraryCalendar::reservationExpired()), so the audit no longer reports as expired a reservation that maintenance rightly keeps.
Capacity and the public calendar read a reservation's effective end, as moved by a later closure. A second promise can no longer overlap the days the closure added, and the calendar on the book page shows those days as taken.
Promotion still follows FIFO on the promised period, but refuses to stretch it into another reader's already promised period when a closure added days. Both queue entries stay for the staff to resolve, and the integrity audit shows the conflict.
Admin create and edit move explicit start and return dates off closed days, the same way the reader's own request does. Completed reservations keep their historical dates.
Waiting pickups are reconciled on every maintenance pass, also when an unrelated loan could not be moved, so a retroactive closure cannot make a pickup expire before the reader could collect it.
Year-coverage guard. The "at least one open day every year" check now includes the holiday rules, scans the full 400-year Gregorian cycle plus any explicit holiday years, and also runs when a custom holiday is re-activated or edited.
Tests
New tests/reservation-calendar-edgecases.unit.php (34 checks) on its own sandbox database <DB_NAME>_rescal.
Full standalone unit suite: 346/350 locally; the 4 reds are the known local-only ones, also red on main in the same environment.
Browser: closures calendar (admin, circulation, existing loans, holidays and loans), circulation reservations, loan/reservation lifecycle and holiday presets: 119/119.

Miglioramenti
…promotion
- Queue expiry: a deadline that falls on a closed day gives the reader the
whole first open day; nothing expires on a closed day. The maintenance
sweep and the integrity audit/repair use the same rule.
- Capacity and the public calendar read a reservation's effective end (moved
by a later closure), so a second promise cannot overlap the shifted days.
- Promotion keeps FIFO on the promised period, but refuses to stretch it into
another reader's period when a closure added days.
- Admin create/edit normalise explicit start and end dates to open days.
- Waiting pickups are reconciled on every maintenance pass, also after a
retroactive closure.
- Year-coverage check counts holiday rules and checks the full 400-year
Gregorian cycle plus explicit holiday years; it also guards re-activation
and edits of a custom holiday.
- New tests/reservation-calendar-edgecases.unit.php (34 checks), sandbox

Summary
Intervalli e capacità effettivi app/Services/CapacityService.php, app/Controllers/ReservationsController.php, tests/reservation-calendar-edgecases.unit.php, tests/loan-reservation-consistency.unit.php
CapacityService calcola gli intervalli effettivi di prestiti e prenotazioni, applica esclusioni di coda e limiti utente e cerca date disponibili per sede e copia. ReservationsController usa gli intervalli del servizio per calcolare la disponibilità.
Promozione FIFO e assegnazione copie app/Controllers/ReservationManager.php, tests/calendar-090-final-gaps.unit.php, tests/mvcc-lockfirst-circulation.unit.php
ReservationManager continua la ricerca dopo candidati non idonei o copie incompatibili. Ricontrolla gli impegni e la capacità prima della promozione e distingue l’assenza di una copia compatibile da un errore di scrittura.
Scadenza automatica e integrità app/Controllers/ReservationManager.php, app/Support/DataIntegrity.php, app/Support/MaintenanceService.php, tests/reservation-calendar-edgecases.unit.php
La cancellazione automatica, gli audit e la riparazione verificano la scadenza effettiva. I ricalcoli includono gli intervalli effettivi e gli impegni senza copia assegnata.
Date amministrative e copertura annuale app/Controllers/ReservationsAdminController.php, app/Controllers/Admin/LibraryCalendarController.php, app/Support/LoanEligibility.php, tests/reservation-calendar-edgecases.unit.php, tests/holiday-presets-apply.unit.php
I controller normalizzano date e periodi secondo il calendario. Il controllo delle festività considera le regole attive e gli anni espliciti prima di accettare modifiche. Il test di concorrenza gestisce il conflitto previsto su MariaDB.

Under lock contention on a single book, pickup deadline reconciliation and expiry for all other pickups can be postponed on each maintenance pass. This delays pickup handling but does not lose data, so the change is mergeable with owner awareness of this follow-up.

ℹ️ No critical issues — two small rough edges worth a look.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed the whole PR: expiry, capacity, promotion, admin date normalisation, pickup reconciliation and the year-coverage guard, plus the new regression test.
Effective queue expiry — new LibraryCalendar::reservationExpired() gives a closed deadline the whole first open day after it and expires nothing while today is closed. The maintenance sweep (SQL is now only a candidate filter, the UPDATE is limited to the filtered ids), the integrity audit and the repair all use it.
Capacity reads the effective reservation end — activeReservationIntervals() drops the lower end filter when the calendar has rules, and fetchIntervals() moves each reservation end to nextOpenDay() on the book's request branch. The public calendar now uses the same intervals through reservationIntervalsInRange(), so it also leaves out paused patrons.
Promotion guard — processBookAvailability() refuses to promote when the closure-added days collide with another promised period, and the integrity overbooking sweep now applies requestDueDate() to reservation ends.
Admin create/edit — for attiva reservations, start and return dates (and data_*_richiesta) move off closed days. Non-active edits keep the posted dates.
Waiting pickups — extendDueDates() now also moves past-due da_ritirare loans when the next open day is today or later. extendPickupDeadlines() recomputes its cap under the book lock and runs on every maintenance pass.
Year-coverage guard — it now includes holiday rules, scans 1900–2299 plus explicit dates years, and also runs on custom-holiday activation and save.
ℹ️ Expiry emails still quote the stored deadline, not the effective one
Expiry now waits for the first open day after a closed deadline, but both expiry paths still put the raw data_scadenza_prenotazione into the reservation_expired email. When a closure moved the deadline, the reader is told their reservation expired on a day the library was closed, while it actually lasted until the following open day. These lines are outside the diff, so I couldn't comment on them inline.
Technical details
# Expiry notification shows the stored deadline## Affected sites- app/Controllers/ReservationManager.php:1249 — `'data_scadenza' => (string) $row['data_scadenza_prenotazione']` in `cancelExpiredReservations()`- app/Support/DataIntegrity.php:1368 — same field in `fixDataInconsistencies()`## Required outcome- The date passed to `sendQueueReservationExpiredNotification()` is the effective deadline `reservationExpired()` used: the `nextOpenDay()` of a closed deadline day on the book's `requestBranch()`, or the stored value when that day was open.
## Suggested approach (optional)- Add a small `LibraryCalendar::reservationDeadline($db, $deadline, $bookId)` helper. `reservationExpired()` calls it, and both notification sites use it too, so the rule lives in one place.
…on is logged
- LibraryCalendar::reservationDeadline() holds the "closed deadline lasts
until the first open day" rule; reservationExpired() and both expiry
e-mails (maintenance sweep and integrity repair) use it, so the reader is
told the day the reservation really lasted.
- A promotion refused because a closure would stretch the period into
another reader's promise now logs the reservation and both end dates.
Deferred promotion is logged — when the closure-added days collide with another promised period, processBookAvailability() now writes a SecureLogger::info line with the reservation id, the book, the requested end and the effective end. Then it returns false.
Shared effective-deadline helper — the new LibraryCalendar::reservationDeadline() returns nextOpenDay() 23:59:59 for a closed deadline day and the stored value otherwise. reservationExpired() now delegates to it and passes in the branch it already resolved.
Expiry e-mails quote the effective deadline — the maintenance sweep (cancelExpiredReservations()) and the integrity repair (fixDataInconsistencies()) now both pass reservationDeadline() as data_scadenza. The reader is no longer told their reservation expired on a closed day. Both candidate queries already select libro_id.
Tests — two new checks cover the closed-day and open-day results of reservationDeadline().

- Maintenance skips the pickup expiry when the pickup-deadline reconciliation fails, and retries on the next pass, so a pickup whose deadline a closure should have moved is never cancelled.
- Promotion checks the days a copy's branch closure adds against the whole queue before extending the loan.
- The integrity audit counts a loan due on a closed day until the reopening day (holdingEnd) and reads reservations through CapacityService, so it applies the same pauses and effective ends as the write gates.
- nextOpenDay()/addOpenDays() step over a whole yearly closure occurrence, so the year-coverage check on calendar save no longer walks long annual closures day by day under the calendar lock.
- Tests: maintenance runAll() with a failed reconciliation, audit with a closed loan due date, yearly-closure jumps (New Year wrap, 29 February), and the MariaDB 1020 conflict asserted where snapshot isolation applies.

✅ No new issues found. The follow-up fixes are sound and the new tests cover each one.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed d7bf6dc, the only commit since the previous review.
Pickup expiry waits for reconciliation — if extendPickupDeadlines() throws, runAllLocked() now skips checkExpiredPickups() for that pass and logs the deferral. One failing book stops the whole reconciliation loop, so skipping every pickup expiry is the right scope.
Branch-closure days checked against the whole queue — createLoanFromReservation() now runs a second hasFreeCapacity() on endDate+1 .. branchDue without the queue-position exclusion. If those days are already taken, it keeps the stored end.
Audit matches the write gates — findOverbookedCirculationPeriods() moves loan ends through holdingEnd() (the overdue sentinel is left alone). It reads reservations through CapacityService::reservationIntervalsInRange(), so it applies the same effective ends and patron pauses. The 9999-12-30 window end keeps the sweep keys at four-digit years.
Yearly closures stepped over in one move — closedThrough() now returns the end of the yearly occurrence that contains the day. It handles the New Year wrap and turns 02-29 into 02-28 in common years. yearCoverageError() now uses nextOpenDay() and keeps the isOpen check for the bound fallback.
Tests — added maintenance runAll() under a held book lock, an audit check for a loan due on a closed day, yearly-jump checks, and a 1020 assertion only where MariaDB snapshot isolation applies.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
✅ No new issues found. The reopening-day rules now line up across promotion, capacity, pickup expiry and the audit.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed 61bde57, the only commit since the previous review.
Promotion tries each assignable copy — createLoanFromReservation() now walks every candidate copy instead of taking only the first. A copy is skipped when its branch's reopening day collides with another promised period. It is also skipped when, with calendar rules, the new CapacityService::copyHasHoldingLoan() finds a loan whose effective end still holds that copy. The chosen loan always ends on its open return day. When no copy fits, the reservation is unclaimed and stays at the head of the queue. Before, the loan kept the stored closed date.
Legacy deadlines on a closed day stay promotable — the new LibraryCalendar::legacyReservationDeadlineFloor() returns the day after the last open day before today. processBookAvailability() and both pause clauses in activeReservationIntervals() bind it as the second promotableReservationWhere() placeholder. processScheduledReservations() widens its candidate scan when rules exist. The legacy start moves to the usable day, and promotion waits if that day is still in the future. This matches reservationDeadline(), because every day between the floor and yesterday is closed.
Pickup expiry rechecks the effective deadline — the new pickupDeadlineOnReopening() (closed deadline → next open day, capped by the loan's due date, never earlier than the stored deadline) is shared by extendPickupDeadlines() and checkExpiredPickups(). A pickup no longer expires before maintenance has moved its deadline. The locked re-read in extendPickupDeadlines() now also matches on libro_id.
Bounded open-day search — nextOpenDay() now delegates to a new firstOpenDayBetween(), which returns null when nothing in the window is open. yearCoverageError() uses it per year. The year range is capped at 9999, and explicit dates and preset overrides add the years on either side.
Audit matches the capacity gate on pending loans — findOverbookedCirculationPeriods() now applies holdingEnd() only to active loans, the same as CapacityService (stored_due is NULL when attivo = 0).
Tests — new checks cover:
promotion of a legacy reservation on the reopening day
the choice of a copy in another branch, and deferral when no copy fits
pickup expiry before deadlines are reconciled
an explicit holiday that crosses New Year
The MariaDB 1020 check now reads SHOW SESSION VARIABLES, so it also works on older servers that use tx_isolation.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
✅ No new issues found. Closure-added days now count in the availability counters and in the patron loan-limit pause.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed 9600ec5, the only commit since the previous review.
Loan-limit pause checks the closure-added days — when calendar rules and a loan limit both apply, activeReservationIntervals() also returns the patron, the requested start and the limit. In fetchIntervals(), the new reachesLoanLimit() then recounts a future reservation over [requested_start, effective end], but only when a closure moved its end. If the patron would be at the limit, the reservation is paused. The overlap predicate is now shared through loanOverlapsReservationSql(), so the SQL and PHP checks match. Legacy rows with a NULL start skip the recheck, which is right because they are promotable and the promotion gate covers them.
Locking branch lookup — requestBranch() takes an optional $lockingRead. When it is set, it reads the copies FOR UPDATE without DISTINCT and removes duplicates in PHP. A NULL branch is kept, so the single-branch result does not change.
Availability counters use the effective end — the new DataIntegrity::reservationEndTodaySql() adds the attiva reservations whose stored end is past but whose nextOpenDay() reaches today. It replaces the raw end predicate in all four reservation-subtraction subqueries of recalculateAllBookAvailability() and recalculateBookAvailability(). These are the only places that write copie_disponibili. Both functions already hold the book lock(s) when it runs.
Tests — new checks cover both counters on the reopening day, and a loan that starts in the added day pausing a future reservation.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
✅ No new issues found. A closure no longer stalls the queue head because of a lower-priority request for the same period.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed 4963511, the only commit since the previous review.
New excludeQueueTailStartingBy filter — hasFreeCapacity(), occupiedCount() and activeReservationIntervals() take a new optional date. It works only inside the existing excludeReservationsAfterQueuePos clause. A request lower in the queue is ignored only when it starts on or before the head's stored end. A later reader whose window starts after that day still counts. $rStart IS NOT NULL is already in the WHERE, so a NULL start can't cause an unintended exclusion.
Both added-day gates use it — the general-calendar check in processBookAvailability() passes the head's queue position and the stored end. The branch-extension check in createLoanFromReservation() passes the same pair: processBookAvailability() is its only caller and now forwards $storedEndDate. A head with a NULL queue_position still checks against the full queue.
No overbooking path — a skipped lower-priority request is checked again when it reaches the head of the queue. At that point the head's loan counts as a holding, so the closure-added days still can't be over capacity. The deferral now falls on the later request instead of the head, which matches FIFO.
Test — one copy, head and second request both on [today, d2], then a closure d2..d3. The head is promoted and the second request stays attiva.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
✅ No new issues found. A blocked reservation no longer stalls the whole queue, and the counters, capacity and audit now treat reopening-day loans the same way.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed 4be50be, the only commit since the previous review.
Queue promotion skips blocked entries — processBookAvailability() now moves through the queue (ordered by queue_position, then id) instead of stopping at the first entry it refuses. The search always moves forward, so it can't loop. Skipped earlier entries still count against capacity, because only entries after the candidate are excluded. createLoanFromReservation() now returns null when no copy fits: the claim is undone and the next entry is tried. A failed write still returns false, which undoes the claim and stops.
Overdue rule follows the calendar in capacity — when calendar rules exist, holdingLoanIntervals() no longer marks an in_corso loan as open-ended just because its stored due date has passed. fetchIntervals() uses isPastDue() to decide. Otherwise the loan holds until holdingEnd(), which now also handles a scheduled loan with no copy by using the book's request branch. Without calendar rules nothing changes.
Next available date is an open day — firstAvailableDate() now returns the first open day inside a free stretch. For titles whose copies sit in branches with different calendars, it also checks that a copy without a loan is in a branch that is open that day. Its only caller is a display path in NotificationService.
Availability counters — with calendar rules, both recalculations count today's reservations through CapacityService::reservationIntervalsInRange(), so they use the same pauses and effective end dates as the booking gates. Scheduled loans with a copy hold through holdingEnd(). A scheduled loan with no copy now takes one slot for the title. The single-book bind_param correctly drops to eight placeholders.
Audit overdue sentinel — findOverbookedCirculationPeriods() now decides in PHP whether a loan is overdue, using dueDate() < today. This matches isPastDue(), so a loan due on a closed day stays finite through its reopening day.
Year-coverage guard — it now ignores stored preset rows once a preset selection exists, the same way loadClosures() does. The calendar is built once and extended with the new withAdditionalClosure(). withAdditionalClosure() is safe to use here because LibraryCalendar keeps no cache built from its closures.
Tests — new checks cover: a shorter hold promoted around a blocked head; the expiry sweep skipped after a failed reconciliation and run again on the next pass; obsolete preset rows; the audit with a legacy reservation that has no start date; and both counters for paused entries and for scheduled loans with or without a copy.

…er pickup
extendPickupDeadlines() stopped at the first book whose lock it could not take, and maintenance then skipped the whole pickup-expiry sweep, so contention on one title deferred the expiry of every pickup in the library for as long as it lasted. Without a caller's transaction each pickup is now reconciled on its own: a failing row is rolled back alone and logged, the others still move, and the run ends with a summary exception carrying the last server error as its cause. Inside a caller's transaction (a calendar save) the first failure still aborts the save. The sweep runs again on every pass: checkExpiredPickups() already rechecks the effective deadline under the loan's lock, so an unreconciled pickup is not cancelled on its reopening day.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
✅ No new issues found. If one book is locked, only its own pickup waits now. Every other pickup is still reconciled and the expiry sweep still runs.
Reviewed changes
I reviewed d269df9, the only commit since the previous review.
Each pickup is reconciled separately — extendPickupDeadlines() now catches errors one row at a time when no transaction is open (maintenance). withBookLock() has already rolled back that row's own transaction, so the loop logs the error and moves to the next pickup. At the end it throws one RuntimeException that keeps the last cause as getPrevious(), so a 1205 lock wait can still be seen. Inside a caller's transaction (the calendar save in commitChange()), the first error is still rethrown right away, so a calendar save still succeeds or fails as a whole.
Pickup expiry no longer waits for reconciliation — the $pickupDeadlinesReconciled gate is gone from runAllLocked(), so checkExpiredPickups() runs on every pass. This is safe because the sweep already locks the loan, then rereads its effective deadline with pickupDeadlineOnReopening(), and it skips any pickup still within its reopening day. If a book is still locked, only that book's step fails, rolls back and is logged, so its pickup is not cancelled.
Tests — the held-lock runAll() scenario now checks four things. The other pickup moves to the reopening day. The locked pickup is neither moved nor cancelled. A pickup that is really late, on a third book, still expires. The next pass reconciles the rest with no errors. The lock-conflict test reads the 1205 code through getPrevious().
